The Theme of Hope in Zülfü Livaneli's Son Ada and José Saramago's Blindness Novels Through Distopic Perspective

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı Zülfü Livaneli'nin Son Ada ve José Saramago'nun Körlük romanlarında distopik bakış açısıyla umut temasının incelenmesidir. Distopik romanlar özellikle son yıllarda sürükleyici içerikleri sebebiyle okuyucular tarafından ilgi görmektedir. Distopik kurgular ortaya koyan yazarlar kendi distopik dünya algılarını romanlarında başarılı şekilde yansıtmışlardır. Distopik algının oluşumunda ve gelişiminde iç ve dış faktörlerin etkili olduğu söylenebilir. Nitekim bu çalışmada ele alınan Son Ada ve Körlük romanlarının yazarlarının toplum, yaşanılan coğrafya, dönemin siyasi ve ekonomik şartları, alınan eğitim ve kültür düzeyi sonucunda oluşan dünya görüşü gibi faktörlerden etkilendiği söylenebilir. Ayrıca yazarların zihin yapısı, karakterleri, kişilik özellikleri ve psikolojik altyapıları gibi iç faktörler de romanların şekillenmesinde doğrudan etkilidir. Çalışma sonucunda dünya genelinde distopik kurgu türünde eser veren yazarların gelecek ile ilgili endişe ve kaygılarının daha fazla olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca çalışmada her distopik eserde olduğu gibi seçili romanlarda da kötümser senaryoların sonunda bir umut ışığı yakıldığına ulaşılmıştır.

The aim of this study is to examine the theme of hope from a dystopian perspective in Zülfü Livaneli's Son Ada and José Saramago's Blindness novels. Dystopian novels have attracted attention from readers, especially in recent years, due to their gripping content. There are writers who put forward dystopian fiction and have successfully reflected their own dystopian world perceptions in their novels. It can be said that internal and external factors are effective in the formation and development of dystopian perception. As a matter of fact, it seems that the authors of the novels The Son Ada and Blindness, which are discussed in this study, were influenced by factors such as society, geography, political and economic conditions of the period, and the worldview formed because of the level of education and culture received. In addition, internal factors such as the writer's mental structure, characters, personality traits and psychological backgrounds are directly effective in shaping novels. As a result of the study, it was determined that writers who write works in the dystopian fiction genre around the world have more concerns and worries about the future. In addition, it was found in the study that, as in every dystopian work, a light of hope is lit at the end of pessimistic scenarios in selected novels.
