The Effects of Educational Technologies Used in Mathematics Education on Student Success: a Meta Analysis Study

Abstract

Matematik eğitiminde yapılan araştırmalar teknoloji destekli matematik öğretiminin, matematiğin soyut kavramlarını, çeşitli eğitim teknolojileri ile somut hale getirilmesi, zamandan ve mekândan bağımsız olarak tekrar imkânı verip konunun kalıcılığının sağlanması, zengin içerik sayesinde öğrenmenin eğlenceli hale gelmesi, öğrencilerin matematiğe karşı olan olumsuz tutumlarının olumlu yönde değişmesi gibi pek çok faydası olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bu nedenle literatürde matematik eğitimine yönelik oldukça fazla çalışmaya rastlanmaktadır. Bu bağlamda bu araştırmada ülkemizde yapılmış olan güncel çalışmaların sonuçlarının bir bütün olarak ele alınarak değerlendirilmesi amacıyla meta-analiz yöntemi kullanılarak, ilgili çalışmaların sonuçları sentezlenmiştir. Bu amaca yönelik olarak Google Scholar, Ulusal Tez Merkezi, Ulakbim gibi akademik veri tabanları kullanılarak matematik eğitimde teknoloji kullanımına dair çalışmalar taranarak çalışmaların bulguları üzerinden genel sonuca ulaşılması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma kapsamına 2017-2022 yılları arasında ülkemizde gerçekleştirilmiş olan 44 makale ve 71 tez çalışması olmak üzere toplam 115 çalışma alınmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda teknoloji destekli eğitime ilişkin genel etki değeri 0,807 olarak bulunmuştur. Ayrıca çalışmaların genel etki değerlerine yönelik çeşitli bulgular derlenerek sunulmuştur.

Researches in mathematics education have many issues such as making technology-supported mathematics teaching concrete with various educational technologies, providing the opportunity for repetition regardless of time and place, ensuring the permanence of the subject, making learning fun thanks to rich content, and changing students' negative attitudes towards mathematics positively. proves to be very beneficial. For this reason, there are many studies on mathematics education in the literature. In this context, in this study, the results of the relevant studies were synthesized by using the meta-analysis method in order to evaluate the results of the current studies conducted in our country as a whole. For this purpose, it is aimed to reach a general conclusion through the findings of the studies by scanning the studies on the use of technology from mathematics education using academic databases such as Google Scholar, National Thesis Center, Ulakbim. A total of 115 studies, including 44 articles and 71 theses, which were carried out in our country between the years 2017-2022, were included in the scope of the research. As a result of the research, the overall effect value of technology supported education was found to be 0.807. In addition, various findings on the general effect values of the studies were compiled and presented.
