Abstract
In the present study, cardiac troponin levels in the Van Cats were aimed to determine first time. Animal materials of the present study consisted of 90 healty cats obtained from Van Cat Research Center of the University of Yuzuncu Yil. The cats divided into three groups as mature male (n=30), mature female (n=30) and cats under 1 years old (n=30). Blood samples were taken from v. Sephalica antebrachii of the all animals which were healthy after clinical examination. Haematological examinations were made by veterinary blood counter. Cardiac troponin I and T levels were determined by commercial kits as using the procedure given in the kit?s usage in the obtained serum samples. Other biochemical parameters were also determined by commercial kits. Haematologic (haematokrit, haemoglobin, white blood cell, granulocyte, lymphocyte / monocyte (%) ve platelet) and biochemical (glucose, urea, creatinin, AST, ALT, LDH, CK, CK-MB, potassium, chloride ve natrium) parameters were in the physiological boundaries and there were no statistical differences in terms of sex and age. In the present study, troponin T couldn?t be detected in all groups. On the other hand, troponin I levels were 0.065 ± 0.04 ng/ml in males, 0.063 ± 0.02 ng/ml in female and 0.059 ± 0.02 ng/ml in kittens. As a result, the obtained troponin concentrations can be reference values for Van Cats, and studies concerning heart muscle degenerations, these findings can be useful information in troponin studies.
