Comparison of Live Weight Estimation Methods From Body Measurements in Norduz Sheep

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, koyun ve keçilerde canlı ağırlığı vücut ölçülerinden tahmin etmek için geliştirilen iki farklı formüle göre hesaplanan tahmin sonuçları ile regresyon analizi sonuçlarını gerçek değerlerle karşılaştırarak yöntemlerin uygunluğunu ve vücut ölçüleri ile canlı ağırlık arasındaki ilişkileri belirlemektir. Çalışmada hayvan materyali olarak 1-4 yaş arası 120 baş Norduz koyunu kullanılmıştır. Koyunların canlı ağırlık ve vücut ölçülerini belirlemek için 15 gün aralıklarla 4 denetim yapılmıştır. Çalışmada incelenen vücut ölçüleri cidago yüksekliği, vücut uzunluğu, kürekler arkası göğüs genişliği, göğüs derinliği, göğüs çevresi ve but çevresi olmuştur. Sonuç olarak, Schaefer formülü olarak bilinen birinci formüle göre elde edilecek canlı ağırlık tahminlerinin, gerçek ölçüm canlı ağırlığını daha iyi temsil ettiği; formül 2'ye göre elde edilen canlı ağırlık tahminlerinin gerçek ölçüm canlı ağırlık değerinden oldukça yüksek sapma göstermesi nedeniyle kullanımının önerilmediği söylenebilir.

The aim of this study was to determine the appropriateness of the methods and the relationship between body measurements and body weight by comparing the results of the regression analysis with the estimated values calculated according to two different formulas developed to estimate the body weight in sheep and goats. In this study, 120 head Norduz sheep aged 1-4 years were used as animal material. Four inspections were performed at 15-day intervals to determine live weight and body measurements of sheep. Body measurements examined were wirth height, body length, chest width behind paddles, chest depth, chest circumference and thigh circumference. As a result, it can be concluded that the estimation of live weight according to the first formula known as Schaefer formula better represents the actual measurement live weight; it can be said that the use of live weight estimates obtained according to formula 2 is not recommended because it deviates considerably from the actual measurement live weight value.
