Evaluation of the Effects of Black Seed Oil on Pain, Swelling, and Trismus After Lower Impacted Wisdom Tooth Surgery

Abstract

Gömülü mandibular üçüncü molar diş çekimi oral cerrahinin en yaygın prosedürlerindenbiridir. Operasyon sonrası ağrı, ödem ve trismus gibi postoperatif komplikasyonlargörülmektedir. Bu komplikasyonlar sonucu hastaların yaşam kalitesi ciddi oranda düşebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada operasyon sonrası ağız antiseptiği olarak kullanılan çörek otu yağı ile gargaranın ağrı, ödem ve trismus gibi postoperatif komplikasyonlar üzerine etkinliği değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmaya bilateral gömülü üçüncü molar dişi bulunan sağlıklı 30 hasta dahil edilmiştir. 1. Gruba klorheksidin glukonat etken maddeli gargara, ikinci gruba ise çörek otu yağı kullandırılmıştır. Hastaların preoperatif ağız açıklığı ölçümü ve kraniometrik noktalar ilefasiyal ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Hastalara postoperatif dönemde doldurmaları için ağrı skalası (VAS) verilmiştir. Diş çekimi yapıldıktan sonra 2. 7. ve 14. günlerde hastalar kontroleçağrılarak trismus ve ödem ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Aynı zamanda çekim bölgesindeki yaranın iyileşmesi de kaydedilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre gruplar arasında ağrı,ödem ve trismus değerlerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark gözlenmemiştir. Bu sonuçlar çörek otu yağı gargaraların altın standart olarak görülen klorheksidin glukonat gargaralara alternatif olarak kullanılabileceğini desteklemektedir

After the operation, patients may experience postoperative complications such as pain, swelling, and trismus. Patients may experience a significant decline in their quality of life as a direct result of the complications caused by their condition. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of black cumin oil and chlorhexidine mouthwash, which are employed as postoperative oral antiseptics, in reducing postoperative complications such as pain, swelling, and trismus. The study consisted of thirty healthy patients who all had impacted third molars on both sides of their mouths. The first group used a mouthwash that contained the active ingredient chlorhexidine, and the second group used black cumin oil. Measurements of the patient's mouth openings, craniometric points, and facial dimensions were taken before the operation. During the postoperative period, the patients were given a visual analog scale (VAS) to complete regarding their level of pain. After having teeth extracted, patients were called in for control, and trismus and swelling measurements were taken on the second, seventh, and fourteenth days after the procedure. It was also observed that the wound that had been caused by the extraction had healed. According to the findings of the research, there was not a discernible and statistically significant distinction to be found between the groups with regard to the levels of pain, swelling, or trismus. These findings lend credence to the idea that mouthwashes containing black seed oil can be used as a replacement for mouthwashes containing chlorhexidine, which are regarded as the gold standard.
