The Determinant Factors That Affect Decision Making Processes of Woman Who Had Learnt That They Will Have Disabled Babies in Van

Abstract

Gebelik sürecinde yapılan test ve taramalar ile fetüsün sağlığı, fiziksel ve zihinsel özellikleri hakkında bilgi edinilebilmektedir. Edinilen bu bilgiler ile fetüste herhangi bir anomali olması durumunda, anne adayları kürtaj veya gebeliği devam ettirerek engelli bir bebek dünyaya getirme gibi iki yönlü bir tercih aşamasıyla karşı karşıya kalmaktadırlar. Araştırmam ile öğrenmek istediğim, gebelik sürecinde bebeğinin engelli olacağını öğrenen anne adaylarının bu zorlu süreçte ne tür faktörler/aktörler, etkisinde kalarak kararlarını şekillendirdiğidir. Anne adaylarının bireysel ve psikolojik olarak görünen bu kararları arkasındaki sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik sebeplerin öğrenilmek istenmesidir. Araştırmada ilk olarak literatür taraması yapılmış daha sonra nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden derinlemesine görüşme tekniği kullanılarak anne adayları ile görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgular ile toplumun sosyo-kültürel ve ekonomik özelliklerinin kadının vereceği kararda önemli bir yere sahip olduğu; ayrıca çeşitli aktörler(eş, aile, sağlık uzmanı vb.) tarafından kadının vereceği kararın yönlendirilmeye çalışıldığı görülmüştür.

Pregnancy tests and scans can provide information about the health, physical and mental characteristics of the fetus. With this information, in the event of an anomaly in the fetus, maternal candidates face a two-way stage of choice, such as abortion or continuing the pregnancy and giving birth to a disabled baby. What I want to know through my research is what kind of factors/actors shape their decisions by being influenced by the expectant mothers who learn that the baby will be disabled during the pregnancy process. The social, cultural and economic reasons behind these decisions which appear to be the individual and psychological reasons of the expectant mothers are to be learned. The first literatüre review was conducted and then interviews were conducted with the mother candidates using in- depth interview technique from qualitative research methods. As a result of the research findings, the socio-cultural and economics characteristics of the society have an important place in the decision of woman; as well as women's decision was tried to be directed by various actors (spouse, famly, health expert, etc)
