Determination of Oxidative Stress Level (malondialdehyde) and Some Antioxidant (superoxide Dismutase, Catalase and Reduced Glutathione) Activities in Osteonecrosis Patients

Abstract
Osteonekroz, kemikte ağrı ve eklem hareketlerinde kısıtlanmaya neden olur. Bu tez çalışmasında osteonekroz ve sağlıklı kontrol bireylerden kan serumu örnekleri alındı. Bu çalışmada, osteonekroz hastalarında malondialdehit (MDA) düzeyi ile süperoksit dismutaz (SOD), indirgenmiş glutatyon (GSH) ve katalaz (CAT) gibi bazı antioksidan aktivitelerin belirlenmesi amaçlandı. SOD, GSH ve CAT aktiviteleri osteonekroz hasta grubu sağlıklı kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı olarak düşük bulundu (p<0.05). Yine hasta grubu, MDA düzeyleri sağlıklı kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı olarak yüksek bulundu (p<0.05). Sonuç olarak, antioksidanlar ile oksidatif stres arasındaki herhangi bir uyumsuzluk hücresel hasar oluşturabilir. Bunun sonucunda oksidatif stres artabilir, buna karşılık antioksidant savunma sistemi ise azalabilir.
Osteonecrosis causes pain in the bone and limitation of joint movements. In this thesis study, blood serum samples were taken from osteonecrosis and healthy control individuals. In this study, it was aimed to determine malondialdehyde (MDA) level and some antioxidant activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH) and catalase (CAT) in osteonecrosis patients. SOD, GSH and CAT activities were found to be significantly lower in the osteonecrosis patient group compared to the healthy control group (p<0.05). Again, MDA levels in the patient group were found to be significantly higher than the healthy control group (p<0.05). Consequently, any mismatch between antioxidants and oxidative stress can produce cellular damage. As a result, oxidative stress may increase, while the antioxidant defense system may decrease.
