Digital Leadership Competencies of School Principals and the Reflection of These Competencies in the Educational Environment

Abstract

Bu çalışma dijital araçların kullanımını ve faydalarını ele alarak, okul müdürlerinin dijital liderlik yeterliliklerini ve bu yeterliliklerin öğretim ortamına yansımasını incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Müdürlerin deneyimlerinden yararlanarak, bu deneyimleri anlamlandırma biçimleri değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmanın katılımcıları, Van ilinde çeşitli öğretim kademelerinde görev yapan toplam 10 okul müdüründen oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada, konunun derinlemesine incelenmesini sağlayan nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Veri toplamak amacıyla yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu hazırlanıp, görüşmeler ses kayıt cihazı ile kaydedilip ve sonrasında yazıya dökülerek fenomenolojik analiz yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda veriler; dijital liderlik kavramı, dijital liderliğe uygun okul müdürü davranışları, müdürlerin girişimcilik ve teknik becerileri, dijital araç gereçlerin okul vizyonu doğrultusunda kullanılması, dijital teknolojiyi kullanarak bilgiye ulaşma, yeni teknolojinin imkanlarını kullanma riski ve bilinçlendirme uygulamaları, bilgi ve iletişim teknolojilerini yönetim işlerinde kullanma, dijital liderliğin eğitim sürecine yansımaları, dijital liderliğin sosyal aktivitelere yansımaları, okulda dijital kültürün oluşmasına yönelik girişimler ve dijital kültürün olumsuz yönleri olmak üzere toplam 13 tema altında toplanmıştır. Bu 13 tema betimsel ve içerik analizine tabi tutularak kategorilere ayrılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; okul müdürlerinin dijital liderlik becerilerinin arttırılması ve eğitim ortamına doğru yansıması için destekleyici eğitimler verilmesi, liderlik yüksek programlarının cazip hale getirilmesi ve okullardaki fiziksel koşulların teknoloji kullanımı açısından iyileştirilmesi önerilmiştir. The study was carried out to research the digital leadership competencies of school principals and the reflection of these competencies in the educational environment, by addressing the use and benefits of digital tools. By benefiting from experiences of the principals, the ways of making sense of these experiences were evaluated. The participants of the research consist of a total of 10 school principals working at various teaching levels in the province of Van. In study, the qualitative research method, which provides an in-depth examination of the subject, was used. In order to collect data, a semi-structured interview form was prepared, the interviews were recorded with a voice recorder and then transcribed and analyzed with the phenomenological analysis method. As a result of the analysis, the data; digital leadership concept, school principal behaviors suitable for digital leadership, entrepreneurship and technical skills of principals, use of digital tools in line with the school vision, accessing information by using digital technology, risk and awareness-raising practices of using the possibilities of new technology, using information and communication technologies in management works, the reflections of digital leadership on social activities, initiatives to create a digital culture at school and negative aspects of digital culture are gathered under a total of 13 themes. These 13 themes were categorized by descriptive and content analysis. As a result of the research; It is recommended to provide supportive trainings to increase the digital leadership skills of school principals and to reflect them in the educational environment, to make master's degree in leadership more attractive, and to improve the physical conditions in schools in terms of technology use.
