DegirmenciArticle 8-Ohdg Levels in Patients With Allergic Rhiniti(Yerkure Tanitim & Yayincilik Hizmetleri A S, 2011) Onbasi, Kevser; Noyan, Tevfik; Cebi, Aysegl; Kiroglu, FarukObjective: Respiratory allergies like allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma are more frequently observed worldwide. Chronic inflammation in the respiratory tract is observed in these diseases. Oxidative stress contributes to this inflammation in the respiratory airways. 8-OHdG is a marker of oxidative stress. The aim of our study was to investigate the 8-OHdG levels in patients with respiratory allergy. Material and Methods: 23 patients with allergy consisting of 11 men and 12 women and 23 healthy controls were enrolled to the study. Results: 8-OHdG levels were found to be higher in allergic patients in comparison to healthy controls but it was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The reason for not significantly high levels of 8-OHdG levels as a marker of oxidative stress in respiratory allergy may attribute to the factor that the inflammation in respiratory allergy is less intensive in comparison to the inflammation in atopic dermatitis.Article Ab-Initio Study of Csgecl3 Compound in Paraelectric and Ferroelectric Phases(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2016) Erdinc, Bahattin; Secuk, Mehmet Nurullah; Aycibin, Murat; Gulebagan, Sinem Erden; Dogan, Emel Kilit; Akkus, HarunStructural optimization, electronic energy band structure, density of states, optical, lattice dynamic and thermodynamic properties of CsGeCl3 compound in paraelectric and ferroelectric phases were investigated using the DFT in the GGA and LDA approximations. According to the results of the investigation, intracellular accumulation was observed to increase in wild type strains of B. cereus T 124 and P aeruginosa N 48 through the applications of Co2+, Cd2+ and Pb2+ (0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 mM). However, both the type of bacteria and the effect of various heavy metals caused different accumulation in two bacteria. In the three of the heavy metals put into application, B. cereus T 124 was found to have much more accumulation than P. aeruginosa N 48. The intracellular accumulation of Cd and Co metal was observed to be greater in B. cereus T 124 strain whereas the intracellular accumulation Pb2+ metal was seen to be much greater in P aeruginosa strain. The highest amount of accumulation was observed for Pb2+.Article Accurately Localizing the Thyroid Tissue in Mature Cystic Teratoma of Ovary by Single-Photon Emission Computerized Tomography/Computerized Tomography(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2015) Demir, Yusuf; Ucler, Rifki; Alkis, Ismet; Bulut, GulayA 30-year-old woman with hyperthyroidism was admitted to hospital. Iodine uptake was detected in this cyst which was compatible with functional thyroid tissue demonstrated by SPECT/CT. The patient was underwent surgical operation and histopathology confirmed mature cystic teratoma. Accurate localization and depiction of thyroid tissue in ovary mass was provided with SPECT/CT.Article The Activities of Gst Isozymes in Stomach Tissues of Female Obese Patients(Walter de Gruyter Gmbh, 2020) Yilmaz, Can; Bulus, Hakan; Oguztuzun, Serpil; Cihan, Mehmethan; Fidan, CeylanObjectives: Obesity has become an important public health problem because of its increasing prevalence and relation with many diseases and mortality. Studies have shown its association with oxidative stress. In this study, the effect of obesity on total amount of thiol and some glutathione S-transferase (GST) isozymes were investigated which could serve as an important criteria in dose adjustment of some certain drugs in obese. Methods: The gastric tissues removed by gastrectomy operation from 29 morbid obese female patients were analysed for thiol levels and activities of total GST, GSTT1-1 and GSTM1-1. Patients were grouped according to age, presence of hypertension and/or diabetes, and family history. Results: The average total thiol was 131.22 (+/- 7.74) nmol/mg protein with no significant differences in between the groups. GSTT1 specific activities were about 20% higher in four groups: with ages over 35 years old, with hypertension, without diabetes and finally without family history, with respect to other groups. The differences between total GST and GSTM1 activity levels of experimental groups were not significant. Conclusions: This is the first study to compare activities of GST isozymes and total thiol content in the stomach tissues of obese female patients accompanying some common metabolic disorders, age and family history.Article Activity, Acute and Sub-Acute Toxicity and Safety Assesment of the Hydroalcholic Root Extract of Diplotaenia Turcica(Agricultural Research Communication Centre, 2018) Ozdek, U.; Basbugan, Y.; Yildirim, S.; Boga, M.; Firat, M.; Deger, Y.Diplotaenia turcica is widely utilized in conventional treatment in the east of Turkey. Due to the insufficient data on the safety profile, the acute and sub acute toxicity of Diplotaenia turcica was determined. Furthermore, total phenolic content, flavonoid content and antioxidant activity of the extract were determined. The acute toxicity of hydroalcoholic root extract of Diplotaenia turcica (HREDT) was evaluated in mice after administration of single oral dose at the 5000 mg/kg (acute model) and rat after 28 days orally administration at the dose range of 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg (subacute model). According to result, the LD50 value of HREDT was found to be greater than 5000 ing/kg. In sub acute toxicity study, no statistically significant differences were observed in the values of hematological and pathological parameters in comparison with control group. It was determined that the glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol and LDL levels exerted a significant effect depending on the HREDT doses. The results from the present study found out that HREDT did not produce any toxic effects or deaths in animals for both single and chronic administration. Additionally, HREDT showed moderate antioxidant activities and exhibited relatively notable total phenolic content.Article Acute Necrotizing Fasciitis Developed Due To Staphylococcal Infection During Neonatal Varicella(2006) Tuncera, O.; Ataşa, B.; Kirimia, E.; Akbayrama, S.; Atikb, B.; Çaksena, H.Although varicella acquired during childhood normally has a benign course, complications may occur during the course of the disease. Cellulitis sometimes occurs as a result of bacterial superinfection. When caused by A-group Streptococci cellulitis may evolve into necrotizing fasciitis leading to necrosis of deep tissues. We have found treatment using parenteral antibiotics, intensive supplementary therapy and surgical debridement of necrotic tissues to be effective. A case of Staphylococcal necrotizing fasciitis in a neonate is reported. © 2006 - IOS Press and the authors.Article Acute Stroke Management in Türkiye: Intravenous Tissue Plasminogen Activator and Thrombectomy Nörotek: Türkiye Neurology Single Day Study(Galenos Publ House, 2023) Topcuoglu, Mehmet Akif; Ozdemir, Atilla Ozcan; Arsava, Ethem Murat; Gunes, Aygul; Aykac, Özlem; Gencer, Elif Sarionder; Ozturk, SerefnurObjective: To reveal the profile and practice in patients with acute stroke who received intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (IV tPA) and/or neurointerventional therapy in Turkiye. Materials and Methods: On World Stroke Awareness Day, May 10, 2018, 1,790 patients hospitalized in 87 neurology units spread over 30 health regions were evaluated retrospectively and prospectively. Results: Intravenous tPA was administered to 12% of 859 cases of acute ischemic stroke in 45 units participating in the study. In the same period, 8.3% of the cases received neurointerventional treatment. The rate of good prognosis [modified Rankin score (mRS) 0-2] at discharge was 46% in 83 patients who received only IV tPA [age: 67 +/- 12 years; National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS): 12 +/- 6; hospital stay, 24 +/- 29 days]; 35% in 51 patients who underwent thrombectomy (MT) alone (age: 64 +/- 13 years; NIHSS: 14.1 +/- 6.5; length of hospital stay, 33 +/- 31 days), 19% in those who received combined treatment (age: 66 +/- 14 years; NIHSS: 15.6 +/- 5.4; length of hospital stay, 26 +/- 35 days), and 56% of 695 patients who did not receive treatment for revascularization (age: 70 +/- 13 years; NIHSS: 7.6 +/- 7.2; length of hospital stay, 21 +/- 28 days). The symptom-to-door time was 87 +/- 53 minutes in the IV treatment group and 200 +/- 26 minutes in the neurointerventional group. The average door-to-needle time was 66 +/- 49 minutes in the IV tPA group. In the neurothrombectomy group, the door-to-groin time was 103 +/- 90 minutes, and the TICI 2b-3 rate was 70.3%. In 103 patients who received IV tPA, the discharge mRS 0-2 was 41%, while the rate of mRS 0-1 was 28%. In 71 patients who underwent neurothrombectomy, the mRS 0-2 was 31% and mRS 0-1 was 18%. The door-to-groin time was approximately 30 minutes longer if IV tPA was received (125 +/- 107 and 95 +/- 83 minutes, respectively). Symptomatic bleeding rates were 4.8% in IV recipients, 17.6% among those who received only MT, and 15% in combined therapy. Globally, the hemorrhage rate was 6.8% in patients receiving IV tPA and 16.9% in MT. Conclusion: IV thrombolytic and neurointerventional treatment applications in acute ischemic stroke in Turkiye can provide the anticipated results. Heterogeneity has begun to be reduced in our country with the dissemination of the system indicated by the "Directive on Health Services to be Provided to Patients with Acute Stroke."Article Adenoid Hypertrophy in Adults: Clinical and Morphological Characteristics(Sage Publications Ltd, 2008) Yildirim, N.; Sahan, M.; Karslioglu, Y.This study compared the aetiology and pathological characteristics of adult and childhood adenoid hypertrophy (AH). Clinical and morphological features and accompanying otolaryngological pathologies were recorded in 40 adults and 23 children undergoing adenoidectomy for obstructive AH. Both AH forms were similar in terms of symptomatology and associated inflammations. There were, however, significant differences in otitis media rate, with effusion and dullness, and retraction in the eardrum both more prevalent in childhood AH. Adult AH was associated with nasal septum deviation in 25.0% of patients. Histopathological features of adenoidal lymphoid tissue were dissimilar in the two groups: numerous lymph follicles with prominent germinal centres was the chief finding in childhood adenoids, whereas adult adenoids showed chronic inflammatory cell infiltration and secondary changes (e.g. squamous metaplasia). These results underline the importance of considering AH as a cause or contributing factor in nasal obstruction and related pathologies in adults and supports the theory that it represents a long-standing inflammatory process rather than being a novel clinical entity.Article Adenosine Deaminase in the Diagnosis of White Muscle Diseases in Lambs(Polish Soc veterinary Sciences Editorial office, 2006) Altug, N.; Agaoglu, Z. T.; Yuksek, N.; Kaya, A.; Keles, I.The aim of the study was to investigate the importance of ADA serum and its isoenzyme activity in diagnosing white muscle disease in lambs. The animal material used in the study was forty seven Akkaraman lambs - twenty seven of which had clinical signs of white muscle disease (white muscle disease group) and twenty healthy lambs (control group). Blood samples were taken and Se levels, CK, LDH, AST, ADA and ADA izoenzyme activity were determined. Following this, the animals in the white muscle disease group received I mg sodium selenit + 60 mg vitamin E intramuscularly as a single dose. Fourteen days following sodyum selenit + vitamin E application blood samples were again taken and the same analysis repeated. Apart from ADA2 activity, other enzyme activities were significantly high (p < 0.001), and serum Se concentrations were significantly low (p < 0.001) in animals of the white muscle disease group compared to the control group. When the parameters obtained from the white muscle disease group were compared before and after treatment it was indicated that all enzyme parameters decreased significantly (p < 0.001) after treatment. On the other hand, serum Se concentration increased (p < 0.01) after treatment in the diseased group. The results confirm that determining ADA serum and its isoenzymes, together with CK, LDH and AST values seems to be useful in diagnosing white muscle disease.Article Adjuvant Treatment Results and Prognostic Factors in Patients With Stage I-Iii Operated Breast Cancer(Kare Publ, 2006) Izmirli, Mustafa; Donmez Yilmaz, Binnur; Alan, Omur; Yalciner, Mehmet; Berberoglu, Elif; Unsal, MustafaOBJECTIVES We evaluated the adjuvant treatment results and prognostic factors in patients with breast cancer. METHODS A total of 197 stage I-III breast cancer patients (mean age 51; range 18 to 80 years) treated and followed up by Okmeydam Training Hospital, Department of Radiation Oncology in 1995 were evaluated retrospectively. RESULTS The 41.1% of patients were premenopausal and the remaining were postmenopausal. Invasive ductal carcinoma was encountered as the most frequent (85.8%) histopathologic type of tumor and most frequent (%49.7) stage was IIB. Modified radical mastectomy was performed on 65% of patients. In adjuvant treatment, cyclophosphamide-methotrexate-fluorouracil combinations and anthracycline containing combinations were given to 46.7% and 23.4% of patients respectively. In addition, endocrine therapy and radiotherapy was carried out on the 75.6% and 69.0% of patients. Local recurrences was occurred in a rate of 13.2% and distant metastases were observed in a rate of 26.4% and 7.1% of patients had both local recurrences and distant metastases. The 60.9% of patients were disease free and 1% with local recurrences also they were followed-up for a median time of 89 months (4-108). The overall survival rate and disease free survival rates for 5 and 8 years were as follows; 68%, 61%, 66%, and 60% respectively. With one variable analysis increased number of involved axillary lymph nodes, tumor size and stage gave rise to reduced overall survival rate and disease free survival rate. With multiple variable analysis, number of involved axillary lymph nodes (p=0.001) and tumor size (p=0.001) had significant effect on overall survival rate and disease free survival rate. CONCLUSION The tumor size and number of involved axillary lymph nodes were found to be statistically significant prognostic factors in breast cancer patients in our study.Article Adsorption of Aniline, Phenol, and Chlorophenols on Pure and Modified Bentonite(Maik Nauka/interperiodica/springer, 2006) Yildiz, A.; Gur, A.; Ceylan, H.In the present study, pure bentonite and bentonite modified by HNO 3, EDTA, and HDTMA are adsorbents. The changes on the surfaces of bentonite samples are studied by IR spectroscopy. The adsorption of aniline, phenol, and phenol derivatives on these adsorbents is examined by means of gas chromatography. As the result of these examinations, it is seen that the adsorption capacities of clay-organic complexes (bentonite - EDTA and bentonite-HDTMA) are higher than those of bentonite-HNO3 and pure bentonite.Article Adsorption of Catalase Enzyme on Silica Gel(Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2007) Alkan, SalihImmobilization of catalase enzyme on fibrous silica gel was investigated in present study. Simple adsorption has no effect on enzyme activity and appeared to as a new method of immobilizing the enzyme at high ionic strength. The storage stability and the kinetic parameters of immobilized enzyme and its activity were evaluated under varied pH, ionic strength and temperature. These studies indicate that silica gel is a valuable support for simple adsorption of enzymes.Conference Object Adsorption of Crystal Violet on Activated Carbon Prepared From Coal Flotation Concentrate(Iop Publishing Ltd, 2016) Aydogmus, Ramazan; Depci, Tolga; Sarikaya, Musa; Kul, Ali Riza; Onal, YunusThe objective of this study is firstly to investigate the floatability properties of Zilan-Van coal after microwave irradiation and secondly to produce activated carbon from flotation concentrate in order to remove Crystal Violet (CV) from waste water. The flotation experiments showed that microwave heating at 0.9 kW power level for 60 sec exposure time enhanced the hydrophobicity and increased the flotation yield. The activated carbon with remarkable surface area (696 m(2)/g) was produced from the flotation concentrate and used to adsorb CV from aqueous solution in a batch reactor at different temperature. The adsorption properties of CV onto the activated carbon are discussed in terms of the adsorption isotherms (Langmuir and Freundlich) and found that the experimental results best fitted by the Langmuir model.Article Adsorption of Maxilon Blue Grl From an Aqueous Solution: Equilibrium and Kinetic Studies(Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2009) Koyuncu, MenderesRemoval of a basic dye, maxilon blue GRL by bentonite, from an aqueous solution was studied. The adsorption of the dye on to bentonite was investigated during batch adsorption experiments carried out to determine the effect of initial, dye concentration and contact time. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were tested for their applicability. Kinetic studies were conducted in two different temperatures and five different reaction periods. Adsorption stability studies were done with five different dye solutions at 37 degrees C, pH 4.5-5.0 and in 10 h stability periods and adsorption capacities, adsorption stability constants and Langmuir and Freundlich constants were calculated. The experimental data were analysed using the pseudo-first-order adsorption kinetic model. According to this model, the rate constants were evaluated for two different temperatures. The experimental data fit the first-order kinetic model.Article Adsorption of Phenol and Phenol Derivatives on Pure and Modified Kaolinite(Mrs Pushpa Agarwal, 2006) Yildiz, A.; Gur, A.In the present work, pure kaolinite and that modified by HNO3, EDTA and HDTMA, were used as the adsorbents. The changes on the surfaces were studied by IR spectroscopy. The adsorption of solutions of phenol and phenol derivatives in alcohol on these adsorbents was examined by means of gas-chromatography. As a result of these examinations, it was seen that the adsorption capacities of the clay-organic complexes (kaolinite-EDTA and kaolinite-HDTMA) were higher than pure kaolinite and kaolinite-HNO3.Article Adsorption of the 2,2-Dichlorovinylphosphate on Raw and Modified Bentonites(Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2013) Yonten, Vahap; Kubilay, SenolThis study aims to investigate the adsorption of the 2,2-dichlorovinylphosphate (DDVP) on raw and modified bentonite via high pressure liquid chromatography and infrared spectroscopy. The modified bentonites were prepared by adding HNO3 and Na2CO3. The Freundlich adsorption isotherm defines 2,2-dichlorovinylphosphate adsorption in aqueous and aqueous ethanol solutions through raw and modified bentonite. Variables such as temperature, time and pH were observed on 2,2-dichlorovinylphosphate adsorption. Then the capacity for maximum 2,2-dichlorovinylphosphate adsorption was measured on modified bentonite with HNO3 under the conditions of pH 3 and 40 degrees C. The modified bentonite with Na2CO3 clay used in experimental work played a major role on the adsorption of 2,2-dichlorovinylphosphate; thus modified bentonite with Na2CO3 is considered to possess better characteristics than modified bentonite with HNO3 and raw bentonite. The Freundlich isotherms of modified bentonite with Na2CO3 in aqueous-ethanol solution were found to be better than isotherms of aqueous solution for a much better 2,2-dichlorovinylphosphate adsorption.Article Adsorption of the 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid Dimethylamine by Raw and Modified Bentonite(Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2012) Yonten, Vahap; Kubilay, Senol; Battal, PeyamiThe adsorption of the 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid dimethyl amine on raw bentonite (Tokat, Turkey), modified bentonite with base and modified bentonite with acid has been studied using high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and FT- infrared spectrophotometer. Sorption of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid dimethyl amine on raw bentonite, modified bentonite with base and modified bentonite with acid was compared solving in different solutions such as aqueous and aqueous-ethanol solutions based on adsorption isotherms. The effect of temperature, time and pH were observed on adsorption of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid dimethyl amine. Sorption mechanisms in soils, the effect of surface functional groups as well as parameters influencing adsorption were discussed. Then maximum adsorption of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid dimethyl amine capacity was measured on modified bentonite with base in pH 5 at 40 degrees C for 24 h. The modified bentonite with base used in experimental work played a major role than on the adsorption of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid dimethyl amine so, the modified bentonite with base has better characteristics than raw bentonite and modified bentonite with acid adsorbents. The Freundlich isotherms of aqueous-ethanol solution was better than isotherms of aqueous solution for much better to adsorb of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid dimethyl amine.Article Adsorption Properties of Basic Dyes (Maxilon Red Grl and Maxilon Yellow Grl) Onto Bentonite(Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2009) Koyuncu, MenderesIn this study, adsorption kinetics, thermodynamics and adsorption stability parameters of maxilon red GRL and maxilon yelow GRL which are used in textile industry especially in dyeing of acrylic fibers on to bentonite were studied. The adsorption of the dyes onto bentonite was investigated during a series of batch adsorption experiments to determine the effect of initial dye concentration and contact time. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were tested for their applicability. Adsorption capacities, adsorption stability constants and Langmuir and Freundlich constants were calculated. Kinetic studies have been made at two different temperatures Adsorption equilibrium studies have been studied using 5 different dye solutions at 37 degrees C, pH 4.5-5.0 and in 10 h. The experimental data were analyzed using the pseudo first-order adsorption kinetic model. According to this model, the rate constants were evaluated at two different temperatures.
