Article Relationship Between Ethylene Adsorption-Isotherms and Gc Retention on Carbowax-Coated Porous Graphite(Friedr Vieweg Sohn verlag Gmbh, 1992) KNOX, JH; CEYLAN, HThe objective of this work was to correlate adsorption isotherms of ethylene at -78-degrees-C on porous graphitic carbon (PGC) with gas chromatographic performance, the intention being that such isotherms could be used as a quality control test for PGC's in general, whether used for GC, HPLC or other adsorptive purposes. GC of test solutes shows that severe peak tailing on bare PGC is removed almost totally by a coating PGC with as little as 0.05% by weight of Carbowax 1500. Surprisingly there is little corresponding change in the ethylene adsorption isotherms, although it is possible to distinguish small differences at surface coverages below 5 % of a monolayer of ethylene. Further work is required to establish a useful QC test.Article Investigation of Changes in Polymer-Probe Interactions With Stabilization Temperature of a Column Contained Acrylonitrile-Methylacrylate Propane-1 Copolymer by Inverse Gas-Chromatography(Marcel dekker inc, 1993) COSKUN, M; KAYA, I; OZDEMIR, EA column filled with Chromosorb W coated with the copolymer acrylonitrile(AN), methylacrylate(MA) and sodium-2-acrylamido-2-methyl propan-1-sulfonate(SAMPS) with a mole ratio of 90.3%, 9.1% and 0,6%, respectively, was conditioned at 150-degrees-C, 175-degrees-C, 200-degrees-C and 260-degrees-C under nitrogen current. After each stabilization, the retention diagrams as plots of in V(g) against 1/T were determined by using inverse gas chromatography(I.G.C.) technique and N,N-dimethylformamide(N,N-DMF), pyridine, 1-propanol and p-xylene as probes in the temperature range 50-150-degrees-C. A film of AN-MA-SAMPS copolymer was heated in an oven at 150-degrees-C, 175-degrees-C, 200-degrees-C and 260-degrees-C under nitrogen current which these conditions are the same those of coated copolymer in the column. After each heating, the IR spectrum, the TG and the DTA curves of the film copolymer were recorded. The changes in structure of the copolymer and solid phase transations suggested by the retention diagrams and the DTA curves were discussed.Article Investigation of Soil Pollution Levels for Zinc, Copper, Lead, Nickel, Cadmium and Manganese at Around of Cinkur Plant in Kayseri(Parlar Scientific Publications (p S P), 1993) Kartal, S.; Elci, L.; Kilicel, F.Levels of some heavy metal pollutions in soils at around of a plant produced zinc, cadmium and lead metals were investigated. The contents of soils taken were compared with the metal contents in a soil collected from an area exposed to little or no contamination. The levels of examined metal pollution depend on directions and distances to the plant. A good correlation between the level of metal contaminant and wind blowing direction was also found.Article Chemical Effects on K-beta/K-beta X-Ray Ratios in Coordination-Compounds of Some 3d Elements(Iop Publishing Ltd, 1993) KUCUKONDER, A; Şahin, Y; Büyükkasap, E; Kopya, AThe effects of changes in coordination number on Kbeta/Kalpha x-ray intensity ratio have been studied experimentally. The Kbeta/Kalpha x-ray intensity ratios for both pure Cr, Mn and Cu and their various chemical compounds with tetrahedral and octahedral symmetry are investigated using a Ge(Li) detector. The measured results indicate that the Kbeta/Kalpha ratios for compounds with tetrahedral symmetry are in general larger than those with octahedral symmetry. The obtained Kbeta/Kalpha x-ray intensity ratios are comparable with both previous published experimental and theoretical results.Article The Effect of The Chemical Environment on The K-beta/K-alpha X-Ray Ratio(Editrice Compositori Bologna, 1993) KUCUKONDER, A; Şahin, Y; Büyükkasap, EChemical effects on the Kbeta/Kalpha X-ray intensity ratios were investigated for different constitutions of Ti, V, Fe, Se, Br, Zr and Ce by a Ge(Li) X-ray detector. The vacancies were produced by heavily filtered Am-241 gamma-rays. It is found that the Kbeta/Kalpha X-ray intensity ratios measured with compounds deviated up to 12% from the corresponding values of the pure elements (Ti, V, Fe) are larger than for the others (Se, Br, Zr and Ce).Other Generalized Poschl-Teller Potential(Baltzer Sci Publ Bv, 1994) SIMSEK, M; Yalçın, ZFrom the point of view of the theory of differential equations, we present a four-parameter exactly solvable generalized Poschl-Teller potential, related to the Jacobi polynomials, using the previously unconsidered equations.Article K-Beta Intensity Ratios Following Radioactive Decay and Photoionization(Akademiai Kiado, 1994) BUYUKKASAP, E; KUCUKONDER, A; SAHIN, Y; ERDOGAN, HKbeta/Kalpha intensity ratios for Cr, Mn, Fe, Cs and Ba have been measured following radioactive decay and photon excitation. A Ge(Li) detector coupled to an ND66B analyzer was used in the measurements. The Kbeta/Kalpha intensity ratio is affected by the mode of excitation. This effect has a significant influence on Kbeta/Kalpha intensity ratios of 3d shell elements (Cr, Mn, Fe). However, the effect was found smaller for Cs and Ba.Article Incoherent-Scattering of 59.5-Kev Gamma-Rays by Light-Elements, Medium-Elements and Heavy-Elements(Editrice Compositori Bologna, 1994) KURUCU, Y; Erzeneoğlu, S; Şahin, Y; Durak, RTotal atomic incoherent-scattering differential cross-sections were determined experimentally for 59.5 keV gamma-rays in Ti, Ni, Zn, Se, Mo, Ru, Cd, Sn, Te, Yt, W and Pb at 120 degrees scattering angle using Ge(Li) detector. The background correction and detection efficiency are also included in the study. The experimental values have been compared with those estimated on the basis of the non-relativistic Hartree-Fock wave functions. Good agreement is observed between theory and experiment.Article The Identification of Streptomyces Isolated From Environmental Soil Samples With Hypal Mycelium Inoculum on Computer-Assisted Identification(Marcel dekker inc, 1994) Atalan, ERepresentatives of Streptomyces strains isolated from environmental soil samples were subjected to identify for the diagnostic characters recommended by Williams el of. (1983b) as a duplicate. Diagnostic characters were tested using a mixture of spores and mycelial fragments, respectively, in order to identify some Streptomyces species and strains on computer assited identification. Most of the marker strains were identified to tile correct clusters. In Contrast, 20 strains out of 38 unknown strains were assigned to any major cluster described by Williams et al. (1983a). Computer-assisted identification procedure has provided reliable identification scores for marker or unknown strains.Article Strongly Summable Sequence-Spaces Defined by a Modulus(Springer india, 1994) OZTURK, E; BILGIN, TThe purpose of this paper is to introduce some new sequence spaces and to examine their basic properties, which generalizes the results of Maddox.Article Enzymatic Analysis of Liver Samples From Rainbow-Trout for Diagnosis of Blue-Green Algae-Induced Toxicosis(Amer veterinary Medical Assoc, 1995) SAHIN, A; TENCALLA, FG; DIETRICH, DR; MEZ, K; NAEGELI, HMicrocystin and related toxic peptides produced by cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are potent and selective inhibitors of protein phosphatases 1 and 2A. We adapted existing enzymatic techniques to analyze the liver of rainbow trout after oral administration of hepatotoxic cyanobacteria. Liver tissue was removed 3 and 12 hours after treatment, and phosphatase activity was determined in liver extracts, using a specific phosphoprotein substrate. In all samples from fish exposed to toxic cyanobacteria, phosphatase activity was suppressed, whereas the control enzyme, lactate dehydrogenase, present in the same liver extract, was not affected by cyanobacteria. Thus, experimental poisoning by hepatotoxic cyanobacteria resulted in an abnormally low ratio of phosphatase to lactate dehydrogenase activity in the liver extracts. These results indicate that specific inhibition of phosphatases 1 and 2A may provide a useful diagnostic tool to determine the early effects of cyanobacteria toxic peptides directly in liver samples from poisoned animals. Although this test was developed with rainbow trout, it should be possible to extend the analysis of liver phosphatase activity to other species, including sheep and cattle, which are frequently affected by hepatotoxic cyanobacteria.Other Perforated Gastric-Ulcer in Children - Case-Report(Assoc Soc Scientifique Med Belges, 1995) DILEK, ON; SEKEER, B; DILEK, FH; ONER, AF12-year-old boy in whom a benign gastric ulcer perforated into the free abdominal cavity is reported. This process has been studied in the temperature range from 463 to 570 K. Pyrolysis of black liquor in the temperature range 463-570 K gave yields which increased from 25.9 to 29.0% as the catalyst percentages was increased from 5 to 20% for CaO. Under the same conditions, the yields of pyrolysis increased from 25.5 to 28.3 for CuCO3.Cu(OH)2.Article Torsion of a Spermatocele(Williams & Wilkins, 1995) ODABAS, O; Aydın, S; Yılmaz, YArticle An Anatomical Study on the Arteries To the Left Adrenal-Gland of Sheep and Goat(verlag Hans Huber, 1995) KARADAG, HThe arteries supplying the left adrenal gland were determined in 12 mature sheep and goats of both sexes and different breeds. The adrenal branches arose from the first and second lumbal arteries in both species but in one goat they originated from the first lumbal artery while in another from the last intercostal artery. The cranial adrenal branches arose from the celiac artery in 8 sheep, both from the celiac and cranial mesenteric arteries in 3 sheep and from the common celiacomesenteric trunk in 1 sheep. In all goats the cranial adrenal branches originated from the cranial mesenteric artery. The caudal adrenal branches arose singly from the renal artery in all sheep and goats. In both species any branch from the aorta or caudal phrenic arteries to the adrenal gland was not seen.Article Analysis of Binary-Systems With Rayleigh and Compton Scattered Photons(Marcel dekker inc, 1995) DURAK, R; Ertuğrul, M; Erzeneoğlu, S; Kurucu, Y; Şahin, YArticle High Cholesterol Levels in Patients With Sleep Panic(1996) Aǧargün, M.Y.; Kara, H.; Algün, E.; Şekeroglu, R.; Tarakçioǧlu, M.Article Equilibrium Properties of a Spin-1 Ising System With Bilinear, Biquadratic and Odd Interactions(Elsevier Science Bv, 1996) Temirci, C; Kokce, A; Keskin, MThe equilibrium properties of the spin-1 Ising system Hamiltonian with arbitrary bilinear (J), biquadratic (K) and odd (L), which is also called dipolar-quadrupolar, interactions is studied for zero magnetic field in the lowest approximation of the cluster variation method. The odd interaction is combined with the bilinear (dipolar) and biquadratic (quadrupolar) exchange interactions by the geometric mean. In this system, phase transitions depend on the ratio of the coupling parameters, alpha = J/K; therefore, the dependence of the nature of the phase transition on alpha is investigated extensively and it is found that for alpha less than or equal to 1 and alpha greater than or equal to 2000 a second-order phase transition occurs, and for 1 < alpha < 2000 a first-order phase transition occurs. The critical temperatures in the case of a second-order phase transition and the upper and lower limits of stability temperature in the case of a first-order phase transition are obtained for different values of alpha calculated using the Hessian determinant. The first-order phase transition temperatures are found by using the free energy values while increasing and decreasing the temperature. Besides the stable branches of the order parameters, we establish also the metastable and unstable parts of these curves and the thermal variations of these solutions as a function of the reduced temperature are investigated. The unstable solutions for the first-order phase transitions are obtained by displaying the free energy surfaces in the form of a contour map. Results are compared with the spin-1 Ising system Hamiltonian with the bilinear and biquadratic interactions and it is found that the odd interaction greatly influences the phase transitions.Article Protection of Intestinal Anastomoses in Septic Environment With Peritoneal Graft and Polyglycolic Acid Mesh: an Experimental Study(Assoc Soc Scientifique Med Belges, 1996) Dilek, ON; Bakir, B; Dilek, FH; Demirel, H; Yigit, MFWe carried out an experimental study in dogs to evaluate the outcome of large bowel anastomosis with 6 stitches (Group C, n:6) in a septic environment with protection by a polyglycolic acid (PGA) mesh (Group M, n:12) or peritoneal graft (Group P, n:12). Thirty dogs were used to compare the techniques. Two dogs in each group were re-operated after 3, 5, 7, 14, 28 and 90 days. They were evaluated for adhesion formation, lumen diameter (anastomotic index), clinical features, histologic appearance and quality of healing at the anastomotic sites. All dogs in group P and group M survived, whereas 2 dogs in the control group died of anastomotic leakage and 3 dogs were re-operated for anastomotic leakage and peritonitis. In group M, one dog was reoperated because of the anastomotic leakage and two dogs were reoperated because of the anastomotic stenosis. Also, 4 anastomoses showed evidence of moderate stenosis. In group P, three anastomoses were graded as minimal stenosis. Histopathologic evaluation showed more complete epithelization, less inflammation, and less adhesion in group P than group M. We could not find any study in the literature that described and compared both techniques. We report here the results of such a study.
