The Investigation of Marcel Proust's Pursuit of The Past in The Context of Paul Ricoeur's Time Concept

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı Marcel Proust'un Geçmiş Zamanın Peşinde adlı yapıtını, Paul Ricoeur'ün zaman kavramı bağlamında incelemektir. Proust, Geçmiş Zamanın Peşinde adlı eserinde, çocukluğuna dair anılarını ve bu anıların kendisinde bıraktığı izleri derin betimlemelerle anlatmaktadır. Onun için sonradan hatırlanan bütün göstergeler birer anlam içerir. Proust, bu anlamları bulurken aynı zamanda geçmişe dönmek istemekte ve zamanı yeniden yakalamanın çabasına girmektedir. Onun için hatırlanan andan alınan duygu, zamanı yeniden yakalamanın ölçütüdür, ancak kaybettiği, yani herhangi bir duygu hissetmediği anların çoğunluğu da onda içsel bir rahatsızlık uyandırır. Paul Ricoeur, Zaman ve Anlatı eseri başta olmak üzere birçok eserinde insan hafızasının zamanla ilgisini alır. Ricoeur'ün değindiği temel konulardan olan tarih anlatımı ve kurmaca anlatım kavramları da zaman, hafıza ve unutuş ile doğrudan ilişkilidir. Ricoeur bu ilişkiden dolayı Proust'un anlatı biçimine değinmiş ve onun tekniğini çözümlemeye çalışmıştır. Nitekim Proust'un çocukluk anılarının üzerine kurmacanın da eklemlenmesiyle birinci anlatıcı kaleminden aktarılan Geçmiş Zamanın Peşinde, Ricoeur'ün zamanla ilgili oluşturduğu söylemleri, kendi edebi derinliğinde barındırmaktadır.

The aim of this study is to examine the work of Marcel Proust in Pursuit of the Past, in the context of Paul Ricoeur's concept of time. Proust describes his memories of his childhood and the traces of these memories himself with deep depictions in his work called Pursuit of Past. For him, all the signs that are recalled contain meanings. While finding these meanings, Proust also wants to return to the past and tries to recapture time. For him, the emotion taken from the moment remembered is the criterion of recapturing time. He does not feel any emotions in the majority of the moments and that awaken him with an inner discomfort. Paul Ricoeur put interest in human memory over time in many of his works, especially in Time and Narrative. Ricoeur refers to history and fiction. These are directly related with time, memory and forgetting. Ricoeur spoke of Proust's narrative form because of this relationship and tried to analyze his technique. As a matter of fact, with the articulation of fiction on Proust 's childhood memories are transferred from the first narrator pen, contains the discourses about Ricoeur's time in his own literary depth.
