Religion-Science Relationship in Thought of Sayyid Hussein Nasr

Abstract

Dinler, tarih boyunca insanın evreni anlama ve açıklamasının birincil dayanağı olmuştur. Düşünce tarihine bakıldığında, doğaya anlam yükleme çabasının, o günün bilimsel gelişmeleri ve hâkim dinî paradigmadan bağımsız olmadığı görülmektedir. Vahiyler doğa hakkında bazı yargılara sahiptir. Rönesans sonrası bilimsel devrimle birlikte, bu yargıların tutarlılığı sorgulanmaya başlanmıştır. Din ve bilim her ikisi de aynı alanda söz söylemektedir. Son söz hakkının kime ait olacağı, din ile bilimin çatışma, uyuşma ve ayrışma şeklinde tezahür eden ilişkisinin nasıl olması gerektiği ise hala cevap bekleyen bir soru olarak ortadadır. Her geleneğin tek aslî gelenekten türediğini iddia eden gelenekselci ekol ve bu ekole mensup Seyyid Hüseyin Nasr soruya farklı perspektifle bakmışlardır. Bu çalışmada din-bilim ilişkisi ele alınırken, bir çatışma zemini olarak tezahür eden modern bilim ve çatışmanın uyuma dönüştüğü bir zemin olarak kutsal bilim ile İslâmî bilimin imkânı ele alınacaktır.

Religions have been the primary basis for human understanding and explanation of the universe throughout history. Looking at the history of thought, it seems that the effort to establish meaning in nature is not independent of the scientific developments of that day and the current religion. Revelations have some judgment about nature. With the post-Renaissance scientific revolution, the consistency of these judgments began to be questioned. Religion and science both speak in the same field. Who will have the final say, and how the relationship between religion and science, manifested in the form of conflict, harmony and dissociation, should be, is still a question waiting to be answered. Sayyid Hussein Nasr, a member of the traditionalist school and school, who claims that each tradition derives from a single basic tradition, looked at the question from a different perspective. In this study, while the relationship between religion and science will be discussed; modern science, which manifests as a backdrop of conflict, and the possibility of holy science and Islamic science as a backdrop where conflict turns into harmony, will be discussed.
