Understandi̇ng of Repentance İn the Compani̇ons

Abstract

İnsanlık tarihi kadar eski olan tövbe eylemi, irade sahibi olan insanoğlunun hayatında hep var olmuştur. Vahyin ilk muhataplarından olan sahâbe, Hz. Peygamber'in terbiyesi ve gözetimi altında yetişen bir nesil olmasına rağmen; günah işlemekten geri duramamış ve bunun sonucunda da nedâmet duygusuyla tövbe ipine sarılmışlardır. Birçok konuda rol-model olan sahâbîler tövbe konusunda da sonraki nesillere örneklik teşkil etmişlerdir. Yanlış eylemlerde bulunan sahâbîler bazen ilahî vahiy ile bazen de Hz. Peygamber tarafından bizzat uyarılmıştır. Bunun üzerine gelen uyarıları bir tavsiye kabul ederek hatalarından arınma yolunu seçtikleri görülmüştür. Bu çalışmada, tövbe kavramının pek çok ayet ve hadiste nasıl ele alındığı ve tövbe eyleminin genel çerçevesinin nasıl çizildiği incelenmiştir. Hz. Peygamber'in söz ve davranışlarıyla tövbe konusunda ashâbına yol gösterdiğine örnek olaylar üzerinden değinilmiştir. Sahâbenin günah işledikten sonraki tutum ve davranışlarına yer verilerek, hatalarını telafi etmek için nasıl bir yol izledikleri ele alınmıştır. Sahâbenin işlediği günahlar kategorize edilerek başlıklar üzerinden sunulmuştur. Az da olsa bazı sahâbîler tövbe etmeyi geciktirerek, hatalarını sürdürmüşlerdir.

The act of repentance, as old as human history itself, has always existed in the life of mankind, who possesses free will. Although the Companions, who were among the first recipients of revelation and were raised under the guidance and supervision of the Prophet Muhammad, could not refrain from committing sins, they nevertheless clung to the rope of repentance with a sense of remorse. The Companions, who served as role models in many aspects, also set an example for subsequent generations in matters of repentance. The Companions who committed wrongful actions were sometimes admonished through divine revelation and at other times directly by the Prophet Muhammad. In response to these admonitions, they accepted them as advice and chose the path of purifying themselves from their mistakes. This study examines how the concept of repentance is addressed in numerous verses and hadiths, and how the general framework of the act of repentance is outlined. Examples are provided of how the Prophet Muhammad guided his companions on repentance through his words and actions. The study addresses the attitudes and behaviors of the Companions after committing sins, focusing on how they sought to make amends and the paths they followed to rectify their mistakes. The sins committed by the Companions have been categorized and presented under various headings. Although rare, some Companions delayed their repentance and continued in their mistakes.
