The Impact of England's Cultural Codes on England

Abstract

1215'te Magna Carta ile başlayan İngiltere'nin modernleşme tarihi ve devamında yaşanan anayasal gelişmeler, dinde reformasyon, Batı Aydınlanma hareketleri, siyasi ve bilimsel devrimler, savaşlar ve uluslararası rekabet İngiltere'nin dünyanın önde gelen imparatorluğu olmasının yolunu açmıştır. Tüm bu durumlar İngiltere'nin aynı zamanda kültürel kimliğinin oluşmasını da sağlamıştır. Kültürel kimlik bir ülkenin coğrafyasına, iklimine, yaşayış tarzlarına, milliyetine ve bakış açılarına göre değişiklik arz etmektedir. Nitekim, Büyük Britanya adasının bir parçası olan İngiltere'nin tarih boyunca her zaman bol yağışlı ve ılıman oluşu, sıcaklığın her yıl kısa bir süre için donma noktasına düşmesi İngiltere toplumunun şekillenmesine ve orada yaşayan insanların kimlikleri üzerinde etki yapmasına neden olmuştur. Yaşanılan coğrafya tüm unsurlarıyla birlikte bir toplumun kültürünü şekillendirdiğinden ülkenin tanımlanması ve kültürel olarak kodlanması açısından da önem taşımaktadır. Yaşanılan mekanın insan üzerindeki etkisi daha sonraki süreçlerde toplumların kimliklerinin oluşmasına vesile olur ki bu durum o toplumun kültürel kodlarının ortaya çıkmasını sağlar. Yaşanılan mekanın yanı sıra çevre koşullarına adapte olmak ve ayrıca sorunlarına çözüm üretmek beraberinde yeni oluşumları ve kültürel dönüşümleri getirir. Bu bağlamda bu çalışmada; İngiltere'nin tarihinden ve kültürel dönüşümünden yola çıkılarak, İngiltere'nin kültür kodları analiz edilecektir.

The history and modernization of Britain, which began with Magna Carta in 1215, followed by constitutional developments, reform in religion, Western Enlightenment movements, Political and Scientific Revolutions, wars and International competition paved the way for England to become the leading empire of the world. All these situations have also created the cultural identity of England. Cultural identity varies according to a country's geography, climate, lifestyle, nationality and perspectives. As a matter of fact, England, which is a part of Great Britain island, has always been rainy and temperate throughout history, and the temperature has dropped to a freezing point for a short time every year, has shaped the society of England and has an impact on the identities of the people living there. The geography that is experienced is important in terms of defining and culturally coding the country as it shapes the culture of a society with all its elements, also. The effect of the living space on human beings leads to the formation of the identities of the societies in the subsequent processes, which leads to the emergence of the cultural codes of that society. In addition to living space, adapting to environmental conditions and also providing solutions to its problems bring along new formations and cultural transformations. In this context in this study; based on the history and cultural transformation of England, England's culture codes will be analyzed.
