Investigation of the Level of Mathematics Abstraction of Middle School Mainstreaming Students

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı ortaokul kaynaştırma öğrencilerinin matematik soyutlama düzeylerini incelemektir. Araştırma zaman ve mekân ile sınırlandırılmış bir durum olması ve özel bir durumun belirlenmesi ile durumun betimlenmesi ve detaylandırılması amaçlandığından dolayı 'içsel durumun incelendiği' bir durum çalışmasıdır. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını 2019-2020 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Van il merkezindeki bir ortaokulda öğrenim gören 4 ortaokul kaynaştırma öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcıların seçiminde amaçlı örnekleme tekniklerinden homojen grup örnekleme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Bu bağlamda aynı hazırbulunuşluk seviyesinde ve yetersizliğe sahip olan öğrencilerin matematik soyutlama düzeyleri incelenmiştir. Araştırma, ülkemizde ve tüm dünyada etki gösteren salgın (koronavirüs) sebebiyle Eğitim Bilişim Ağı (EBA) canlı ders uygulaması ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Konu ile ilgili yasal dayanaklar, yüksek lisans ve doktora tezleri, makaleler, kitaplar, internet ve diğer kaynaklar detaylı olarak incelenmiştir. Kaynaştırma öğrencilerinin matematik soyutlama düzeylerinin incelenmesi için uzman görüşü alınarak 'zihinden toplama işlemi yapma' ve 'örüntü oluşturma, devam ettirme ve genelleyebilme' ile ilgili her biri için dörder açık uçlu soru hazırlanmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda öğrencilerden biri herhangi bir soyutlama düzeyinde çıkmamış, ikisi deneysel soyutlama düzeyinde ve biri de birinci derece yansıtıcı soyutlama düzeyinde çıkmıştır.

The aim of this study is to examine the levels of mathematics abstraction of middle school inclusive students. The research is a case study that 'examines the internal state' because it is a situation limited by time and space and it is aimed to describe and elaborate the situation by determining a special situation. The participants of the study are 4 middle school mainstreaming students studying at a secondary school in the city center of Van in the 2019-2020 academic year. Homogeneous group sampling technique, one of the purposeful sampling techniques, was used in the selection of the participants. In this context, the mathematical abstraction levels of students with the same level of readiness and disability were examined. The research was carried out with the Education Informatics Network (EBA) live course application due to the epidemic (coronavirus) affecting our country and the whole world. Legal bases, master's and doctoral dissertations, articles, books, internet and other resources related to the subject were examined in detail. In order to examine the mathematical abstraction levels of the mainstreaming students, four open-ended questions were prepared for each of them on 'mental addition' and 'pattern creation, continuation and generalization', taking expert opinion. As a result of the study, one of the students did not come out at any level of abstraction, two of them were at the level of empirical abstraction and one of them was at the level of reflective abstraction.
