Many critics agree that this female characters represent the characteristics ofthe Jazz Age which is defined as a period valueing material wellbeing, comfort,luxury, idle life over all moral and humanistic values.His writings are regarded as the most popular and outstanding in the twentiethcentury literature. He is both the greatest celebrant and the sternest critic of theperiod.
