A Research on the Professional Ethical Behavior of Academicians According To the Pre-Service Turkish Language Teachers' Opinions

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının görüşlerine göre akademisyenlerin mesleki etik davranışlarını belirlemektir. Bu temel amaç çerçevesinde Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının derslerine giren ya da bulundukları kurumda görev yapan akademisyenlerin (öğretim üyesi, öğretim görevlisi, araştırma görevlisi) Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarına yaklaşımları, Türkçe öğretmeni adayları ile ilişkilerinde herhangi bir çıkar sağlayıp sağlamadıkları (karşılık bekleyip beklemedikleri), Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının farklılıklarından dolayı kendilerine farklı bir yaklaşımda (olumlu-olumsuz) bulunup bulunmadıkları, mesleki bilinç ve yeterlikleri, ders ve okul içi/dışı, etik/etik dışı davranışları belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışma, nitel araştırma türlerinden biri olan 'temel nitel araştırma' desenine göre yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2021-2022 Eğitim ve Öğretim Yılı'nda, Türkiye'deki 6 (altı) üniversitenin eğitim fakültelerindeki Türkçe öğretmenliği programlarında öğrenim görmekte olan toplam 25 (yirmi beş) 4. sınıf Türkçe öğretmeni adayı oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada veriler nitel araştırma yönteminin veri toplama tekniklerinden biri olan 'yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniğine göre toplanmıştır. Verilerin toplamasında araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen Akademisyenlerin Mesleki Etik Davranışlarını Belirlemeye İlişkin Yarı Yapılandırılmış Görüşme Formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizine göre çözümlenmiştir. Analiz sonucunda ulaşılan bulgular alan yazınında yer alan benzer çalışmalarla karşılaştırılarak tartışılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonunda, Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının görüşlerine göre akademisyenlerin birçok olumlu davranışlarının olmasının yanı sıra olumsuz kategoride de birçok etik dışı davranış gösterdikleri belirlenmiştir.

The aim of this study is to determine the professional ethical behavior of academicians according to the Pre-Service Turkish Language Teachers' opinions. Within the framework of this main purpose, the study seeks to determine the approaches of academicians (full/associate/assistant professor, lecturer, research assistant) instructing pre-service Turkish language teachers or working in their institution towards them based on whether they gain any benefit from their relations with pre-service Turkish language teachers (whether they expect something in return) and on whether they have a different approach (positive or negative) to pre-service Turkish language teachers due to their differences and on their professional awareness and competence as well as instructors‟ ethical/unethical behaviors in or outside of class/school. The study was conducted according to the 'basic qualitative research' design, which is one of the qualitative research types. The study group of the research consists of a total of 25 (twentyfive) 4th grade pre-service Turkish language teachers studying in the departments of Turkish education in the education faculties of 6 (six) universities in Turkey in the 2021-2022 Academic Year. In the study, data were collected according to the 'semi-structured interview' technique, which is one of the data collection techniques of the qualitative research method. Semi-Structured Interview Form for Determining the Professional Ethical Behaviors of Academicians, developed by the researcher, was used in order to collect the data. The data obtained was analyzed in terms of content analysis. The findings obtained as a result of the analysis were discussed by comparing them with similar studies in the existing literature. At the end of the study, next to multiple positive behaviors, it was determined that academicians displayed many unethical behaviors in the negative category according to the opinions of the pre-service Turkish language teachers.
