Level of Burnout for Dentists During the Covid 19 Pandemic Process
Abstract
Burnout syndrome is quite common in occupational groups that are in direct contact with people. Causes such as intense workload, stress, organizational injustice, anxiety affect burnout negatively. The level of burnout increases in individuals working in the healthcare field, where these situations are frequently encountered. Fears and worries experienced during the Covid-19 process increase the level of burnout. The negative effects of burnout are seen in dentists working in the health field. These negative effects are more common in dentists who are in the high-risk group and continue to provide services during the pandemic process. In this study, the level of burnout experienced by dentists during the Covid-19 pandemic process, ıt is aimed to determine the relationship between them according to the period before the pandemic. In line with this purpose, data were collected by conducting face-to-face interviews with 146 dentists working in the private and public sector in Van. The questionnaire form consists of three parts; personal information form, Pre-Pandemic Maslach Burnout Scale and Pandemic Period Maslach Burnout Scale were used. The obtained data were evaluated in the SPSS 20.0 package program. As a result of the data, it is seen that there is an increase in the emotional exhaustion and depersonalization sub-dimension during the pandemic period in dentists compared to the pre-pandemic period, and a decrease in the personal achievement sub-dimension. It has been observed in the emotional exhaustion and hearing sub-dimensions of dentists working in pre-pandemic and pandemic periods. Emotional exhaustion and depersonalization increase as the age increases before and during the pandemic period.
