Muscular Hydatidosis

Abstract

Hydatid cyst, frequent in sheep raising countries, is a parasitic disease caused by a cestode named echinococcus and spreaded to man generaly by dog faeces. The disease is characterised with cystic lesions in involved organs. Liver (60%) and lung (30%) are mostly affected organs. It may also be seen in the other areas as atyptical localisations. In this study, we present a 31 year-old famale patient diagnosed with hydatid cyst located at left latissimus dorsi muscle. We detected a solid-cystic mass showing lobulated contour, 15 x 20 cm in diameter, deep fascial and muscular extension in the left latissimus dorsi muscle in thorax tomographia examination. After the general anestezia, hydatid cyst and its capsule was removed totally. The diagnosis of hydatid cyst was confirmed histopathologically. We consider that hydatid cyst should be included in differential diagnosis of a well-defined muscular cystic mass in the endemic areas.
