Turkish Folk Astronomy in Turkish World Legends and Its Reflections on Education

Abstract

Atlı göçebe hayat biçimini benimsemiş olan Eski Türkler, benimsedikleri hayat biçimi nedeniyle çevre şartlarından oldukça fazla etkilenmiştir. Çevre koşuları sadece günlük hayatlarını etkilemekle kalmamış dünyayı algılama biçimleri de bu çevre koşullarına göre biçimlenmiştir. Yılın farklı mevsimlerini farklı bölgelerde geçiren Eski Türkler zorlu iklim şartlarına karşı kendileri ile birlikte hayvanlarını muhafaza etmek, yönleri ve zamanı tayin edebilmek amacı ile kutsal gördükleri gökyüzünden faydalanmışlardır. Gökyüzü onlar için duyulan meraktan dolayı ve onlara sağlayacağı yarardan dolayı keşfedilmesi gereken bir yer olmuştur. Gökyüzünü çıplak gözle incelemenin mümkün olduğu eski zamanda gök cisimlerinin ortaya çıkışı hakkında fikir yürütmüş; bu cisimlerin gökyüzündeki hareketlerini, şekillerini, gökyüzünde göründükleri zamanı gözlemleyerek bir dünya tasavvuru oluşturmuşlardır. Bu çalışmada gök cisimleri ile ilgili metinlerden yola çıkarak halkın gökyüzü hakkındaki bilgisi ve oluşturdukları halk astronomisi ortaya konmuştur.

The Ancient Turks, who adopted the nomadic lifestyle of horseback riding, were greatly affected by environmental conditions due to the lifestyle they adopted. Environmental conditions not only affect their daily lives, but also the way they perceive the world is shaped according to these environmental conditions. Ancient Turks, who spent different seasons of the year in different regions, took advantage of the sky, which they considered sacred, to protect themselves and their animals against harsh climatic conditions and to determine directions and time. The sky has become a place that needs to be explored because of the curiosity felt for them and the benefits it will provide them. He speculated about the emergence of celestial bodies in ancient times, when it was possible to examine the sky with the naked eye; They created a folk astronomy by observing the movements of these objects in the sky, their shapes, and the time they appeared in the sky. In this study, people's knowledge about the sky and the folk astronomy they created were revealed, based on the texts about celestial bodies.
