India Through the Eyes of Pilgrim Haji Zeynelabidin Shirvani (1802-1810)
Abstract
Seyyahlar, gezilen ve görülen yerler hakkında geçmişe ışık tutan önemli şahsiyetlerdir. Seyahatname yazarları, gittikleri coğrafyaların tarihi ve kültürel değerlerinden etkilenip kendi halkına anlatma isteği ile bu tarz eserleri kaleme alırlar. Bu amaçla gördüklerini kaydeden Azeri bir gezgin olan Hacı Zeynelabidin Şirvani'nin Hindistan seyahatnamesi incelenerek tercümesi yapılmıştır. Ancak bu fasıla geçmeden önce seyyahın aktardıklarını daha iyi anlayabilmek adına Hindistan coğrafyası hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Seyyah, Hindistan'ın geneli hakkında bilgi verdikten sonra şehirlerini de görmüştür. Bu şehirlerin kuruldukları yerler ve iklimleri, siyasi tarihleri, kültürleri ve inançlarının yanı sıra dikkatini çeken bazı olaylar hakkında da kısa bilgiler vermiştir. Bahsettiğimiz dönem XVIII. yüzyıl olduğundan bugün ayrı bir devlet olan Pakistan sınırları içerisinde ki bazı şehirler de dönem itibariyle Hindistan toprağıdır. Çalışmamız da bu çerçeve içinde kalıp aktarım yapılmıştır.
Travelers are important figures who shed light on the past about the places visited and seen. Travelogue writers are influenced by the historical and cultural values of the geographies they visit and write such works with the desire to tell their own people. For this purpose, the Indian travelogue of Haji Zeynelabidin Shirvani, an Azerbaijani traveler who recorded what he saw, was examined and translated. However, before proceeding to this chapter, information about the geography of India has been given in order to better understand what the traveler has conveyed. After giving information about the whole of India, the traveler also saw its cities. He gave brief information about the places where these cities were founded and their climate, political history, culture and beliefs, as well as some events that attracted his attention. The period we are talking about is XVIII. since a century ago, some cities within the borders of Pakistan, which is a separate state today, have also been Indian territory since the period. Our study was also carried out within this framework and mold transfer.
