The Effects of Different Salt Aplications on Some Vegetative and Chemical Characters Two Strawberry (Fragaria X Ananassa) Cultivars
Abstract
In this study, 500, 1000 and 1500 mg.l-1 salt applications in Kabarla and Gloria cultivars insolid media culture were performed along with Hoagland nutrient solution. In the experiment, somevegetative growth and chemical alterations were determined in the plants to which salt were appliedcompared with the control. At the end of the experiment, it was observed that cultivar of Kabarlagrew better under saline conditions compared with Gloria. It was observed that vegetative growthwas generally restricted depending on the increase in salt applications, but maintained. Especially, damages on leaves became significant. It was determined that the increased salt doses affectedchlorophyll and malondialdehyde levels, but these values were not sufficient to determine salttolerantcultivars. It was found that Na+ ion accumulation on root, crown and leaves of the plant andion accumulation ratios of K+/Na+ and Ca2+/Na+ had significant effects on tolerance to salineconditions. Higher Na+ ion accumulation and ion accumulation ratios of K+/Na+ and Ca2+/Na+ wereobtained in case of Kabarla, which was understood that it grows better under saline conditions. These values stayed lower in case of Gloria.Key words: Strawberry, Cultivar, Salt
