The Hadiths About Portrayal: Referencing and Evaluation

Abstract

Hz. Peygamberin tasvirle ilgili olan sözleri, tasvire cevaz veren ifadeler içerdiği gibi, tasviri kısmen yasaklayıcı ifadeleri de barındırır. Tasvir konulu rivayetlerin çoğu Hz Aişe'nin başından geçen olayların akabinde söylendiği için Hz Aişe kaynaklıdır. İncelemelerimiz neticesinde görülmüştür ki ilgili rivayetler hadis değerlendirme kriterleri açısından sağlam rivayetlerdir. Eserleri üzerinde inceleme yaptığımız alimlerinin çoğu da bu rivayetleri sağlam kabul etmişlerdir.Tasvir hadisleri olarak isimlendirdiğimiz rivayetleri incelerken rivayetlerin lafız ve mana olarak Hz Peygamber'e olan aidiyetini klasik hadis usulü ile değerlendirmenin yeterli olmadığı kanaatine varılmıştır.Tasviri yasaklayan rivayetlerdeki bazı kapalı lafızlar konunun anlaşılmasını zorlaştırmış, hadis şarihlerini de rivayetleri anlama noktasında ikiye bölmüştür.İslam toplumları tarihi süreçte tasvirden mümkün mertebe kaçınmışlar, tasvir yerine başka sanat dallarına yönelmeyi yeğlemişlerdir.İslam dininin temel kaynağı Kur'an'a baktığımızda, resim ve heykel sanatının yasak olduğuna dair açık bir ayet bulunmamaktadır. Konuyla ilgili hadisler incelendiğinde de sadece İslam'ın ruhuna aykırı olan; tapınma amaçlı veya namazda iken zihni meşgul edenlerin veya namazdaki huşûu bozan tasvir ürünlerinin yasaklandığı görülür.Bu sanat türleri konusunda önemli olan bu eserlerin niçin yapıldığı ve mahiyetinin ne olduğudur. İnsanların asli görevlerini engellemediği ve yapılan bu eserler putlaştırılmadığı sürece İslam dininin resim ve heykel sanatını yasaklamadığı söylenebilir.

The hadiths (sayings) of the prophet Mohammad about portrayals include both permissibility and prohibition. As most of the narratives about portrayals had been narrated after the incidents that Hz. Aişe had experienced, they had been reported from in Hz. Aişe. After our detailed analysis, it is evident that such narratives are reliable narratives in terms of the hadith evaluation criteria. Most of the scholars that we researched on their works also accepted their reliability.While analyzing the narratives that are called descriptive hadiths, it is accepted that it is inadequate to evaluate the narratives by means of the classical hadith criteria to decide their state of belonging to the prophet Mohammad in terms of identical wording and meaning.Some unclear utterances in the narratives that prohibit portrayals made it more difficult to explain and understand this issue. Moreover they divided the Hadith Scholars into two to comprehend the narratives.For centuries, the thought that argued for the pictorial art and sculpturing to be prohibited by the Islam had been dominant. For that reason, most of the Muslims stayed away from these both forms of art. Instead of portrayal arts, they preferred to have been interested in other kinds of art.When looked at the Quran- the master source of the Islam, there is no clear evidence inside the verses that states such a prohibition for these kinds of art. Additionally, when the Hadiths are analyzed, it is also clear that only the portrayals that stand against the Islamic thought or that are for the purpose of worshipping or that engage one?s attention while performing the salah (prayer) or that disrupt the humility of the namaz are prohibited.What are essential for these forms of art is why these are made for and what the character of them is. Finally, it can be said that unless these forms prevent people from achieving their principal duties and unless they are idolized by people, they are not forbidden by the Islamic rules.
