The Problems and Contemporary Interpretation of Turkish Marble-Painting

Abstract

In this study literature information, source and documants related to traditional Turkish Ebru Art (Marbling) were gathered under the title: 'The Contemporary Interperation of Turkish Ebru Art and its Problems' Some interviews were performed with ebru artists (marbling artists) in order to determine problems and solutions related to interperation of Ebru art,preperation of physical conditions and continuation of its teaching. Current education programs were evaluated under these opinions. Colour pictures were used in these descriptions. Some information about the adorning arts and place of Ebru art in other Turkish adorning art were provided. The historical progress of Turkish Ebru Art was explained. Information about the tools used in making ebru, performing ebru, preparation of paints, ebru varieties and transferring ebru into paper were presented. Iformation about some famous old and living ebru artists was provided by investigating their biographies. The emphasise was made on the places where ebru art is used and the relationship between Ebru and slate pictures. In our study; it was investigated to find out answers to some questions such as 'What kind of mentality is one of our traditional art faced to during the first half of 21st century', 'What are the problems of Ebru Art' and 'How these problems can be solved'. In addition te importance and place of Ebru art in Turkish cultural life were investigated. In general, in our study, introduction of Ebru Art to next generation was aimed by emphasising the importance of Ebru art.
