According To Zemahşeri, the Invisibility and Invisible Beings
Abstract
The aim of this study is to obtain a real knowledge about the angel, djinni and Satan from the invisibility and invisible beings, who have arousing the curiosity of man throughout history but are not perceived by the senses and have an important place in the agenda of our supreme book, Qur'an, and to contribute to the studies conducted on this subject. For this purpose, we focused on the works of 'al-Minhâc fî uṣûli'd-dîn' and 'al-keşşâfʿan haḳāʾiḳı ğavâmiżi't-tenzîl veʿuyûni'l-eḳāvîl fî vücûhi't-teʾvîl' which are the works of Zamahşeri, a Mu'tazili scholar; we tried to analyse his comments about the invisibility and invisible beings. Our Study named 'Invisibility and invisible Beings According to 'Zemahshari' consists of an introduction and two parts. In the introduction part, we gave information about the method we used in our research by mentioning the importance, scope, purpose and problems of our subject. In the first part, we evaluated the invisibility and the issues related to the invisibility according to Zemahshari. In the second part, we analysed the topics of angels, djinn and Satan from the hereafter and the invisible beings according to Zemahshari. Zemakhshari has generally taken a revelation-centered approach in his statements about the issues of the unseen, which are the subject of our research. In doing so, he usually made linguistic explanations in the explanation of the expressions mentioned in the Qur'an, and in most places he accepted the verses related to the subject as metaphors within the framework of sectarian sensitivity. In detailing the issues, Zemahsheri, who sometimes does not neglect to include narrations and takes an original approach to the problems, has come to conclusions that are in line with the principles of the Mu'tezile sect, which he usually belongs to, although he has parallel conclusions with the Sunni paradigm from time to time with this approach.
