Examining the Leadership Orientations of Physical Education Teachers

Abstract

Araştırmanın amacı Doğu Anadolu Bölgesindeki Beden Eğitimi öğretmenlerinin liderlik yönelimlerinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmanın evrenini Doğu Anadolu Bölgesindeki Beden Eğitimi öğretmenleri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturan Beden Eğitimi öğretmenlerinden 600 erkek, 456 kadın olmak üzere toplam 1056 gönüllü katılımcıya ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma verileri kişisel bilgi formu ve ''Liderlik Yönelim Ölçeği'' ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizi SPSS istatistik paket programı (Versiyon 17.0, Chicago) ile yapılmıştır. Verilerin dağılımı Kolmogorov-Smirnov testi ile incelenmiştir. Test sonucunda verilerin normal dağılım göstermediği saptanmış olup parametrik olmayan testler ile verilerin analizi yapılmıştır. Analizlerde tanımlayıcı istatistikler için frekans analizi, ikili karşılaştırmalar için Mann Whitney U-Testi, ikiden fazla gruplar için Kruskal-Wallis Testi, değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek için Spearman korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Anlamlılık düzeyi p<0.05 olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda cinsiyet, medeni durum, yaş, vücut ağırlığı, çalışma yılı ve çalışılan kurum değişkenleri ile yapısal liderlik, insan kaynaklı liderlik, politik liderlik ve sembolik liderlik alt boyutları arasında anlamlı bir fark olduğu bulunmuştur (p<0.05). Sonuç olarak; Doğu Anadolu Bölgesindeki Beden Eğitimi öğretmenlerinin liderlik yönelimleri incelendiğinde erkek öğretmenlerin kadın öğretmenlere göre liderlik yönelimlerinin daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir.

The aim of the research is to examine the leadership orientations of Physical Education teachers in the Eastern Anatolia Region. The population of the research consists of Physical Education teachers in the Eastern Anatolia Region. A total of 1056 volunteer participants, 600 male and 456 female, were reached from the Physical Education teachers who constituted the sample of the study. Research data were collected with a personal information form and 'Leadership Orientation Scale'. The analysis of the obtained data was made with the SPSS statistical package program (Version 17.0, Chicago). The distribution of the data was analyzed with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. As a result of the test, it was determined that the data did not show normal distribution, and the data were analyzed with non-parametric tests. Frequency analysis was used for descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U-Test for pairwise comparisons, Kruskal-Wallis Test for more than two groups, Spearman correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between variables. Significance level was evaluated as p<0.05. As a result of the analyzes, it was found that there was a significant difference between the variables of gender, marital status, age, body weight, working year and the institution of employment, and the sub-dimensions of structural leadership, human-based leadership, political leadership and symbolic leadership (p<0.05). As a result; When the leadership orientations of Physical Education teachers in the Eastern Anatolia Region were examined, it was determined that male teachers had higher leadership orientations than female teachers.
