An Investigation on Teachers' Habits of Using Media Who Teach Social Scienses Before and During the Pandemia

Abstract

Pandemi gibi olağanüstü süreçlerde insanların tutum ve alışkanlıklarında ciddi değişimler meydana gelmektedir. Bu dönemlerde insanlar içine düştükleri karamsar durumdan bir nebze de olsun uzaklaşmak için medya araçlarını çoğu zaman kontrolsüz bir oranda kullanma eğilimi gösterirler. Bu çalışmanın amacı da öğretmenlerin pandemi öncesi ve pandemi süresince medya kullanım alışkanlıklarındaki değişimleri değerlendirmektir. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2020-2021 eğitim öğretim yılında Van ili ve ilçelerinde (İpekyolu ve Tuşba) Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü'ne bağlı okullarda görev yapan sosyal bilgiler öğretmenleri ve sosyal bilgiler dersi veren sınıf öğretmenleri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmaya gönüllü olarak 81 öğretmen katılmıştır. Araştırmada nicel verilerin toplanmasında Medya Araçlarını Kullanma Anketi (MAKA), nitel verilerin toplanmasında da yapılandırılmış görüşme formundan yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nitel verileri içerik analiz yöntemiyle, nicel verileri de SPSS 21.0 paket programı kullanılarak çözümlenmiştir. Nicel verilerin analizi için betimsel istatistik yöntemlerinden (yüzdelik ve frekans), nitel verilerin analizi içinde betimsel analiz yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ve MAKA kullanılarak elde edilen bulgulara göre; Pandemi öncesine kıyasla pandemi süresince 3-4 saat ve 4 saat üzeri internet kullanım aralıklarında ciddi bir artışın olduğu; eğitim amaçlı interneti kullanımlarında ciddi bir artışın olduğu; özellikle Whatsapp ve facebook gibi sosyal paylaşım uygulamalarının kullanımlarında ciddi bir artışın olduğu; sosyal paylaşım araçlarını eğitim amaçlı kullanım oranında ciddi bir artışın olduğu; cep telefonu kullanım oranlarında ciddi bir artışın olduğu; cep telefonlarını eğitim amaçlı kullanım oranlarında ciddi bir artışın olduğu; hiç TV izlemeyenlerin oranında (%11,1) bir düşüşün olduğu 3-4 saat ve 4 saat üzeri izleme aralıklarında ciddi bir artışın olduğu; televizyondaki eğitici/belgesel programlar ile dizi/sinema tarzı programları izleme oranlarında ciddi bir artışın olduğu; dergi ve gazete okuma sürelerinde çok ciddi bir farklılığın olmadığı; radyo dinleme sürelerinde çok az bir artışın olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Anket sonucu elde edilen bu veriler aynı zamanda öğretmenler ile yapılan görüşmeler neticesinde de teyit edilmiştir.

In extraordinary processes such as pandemics, serious changes occur in people's attitudes and habits. In these periods, people tend to use media tools at an uncontrolled rate in order to get away from the pessimistic situation they are in. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the changes in teachers' media usage habits before and during the pandemic. The sample of the study consists of primary school teachers who teach social studies course and social studies teachers in schools affiliated to the National Education Directorate in Van province and its districts (İpekyolu and Tusba) in the 2020-2021 academic year. 81 teachers participated in the study as voluntarily. In the research, the Use of Media Tools Questionnaire (UMTA) was used to collect quantitative data, and a structured interview form was used to collect qualitative data. The qualitative data of the research were analyzed by the content analysis method and the quantitative data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 package program. Descriptive statistical methods (percentage and frequency) were used for the analysis of quantitative data, and descriptive analysis method was used for the analysis of qualitative data. As a result of the research, according to the findings obtained by using the structured interview form and UMTA It has been determined that; compared to the pre-pandemic period, there is a serious increase in the internet usage intervals of 3-4 hours and 4 hours during the pandemic; there is a significant increase in their use of the Internet for educational purposes; there is a serious increase in the use of social sharing applications such as Whatsapp and facebook; there is a significant increase in the use of social sharing tools for educational purposes; there is a serious increase in mobile phone usage rates; there is a serious increase in the use of mobile phones for educational purposes; there is a decrease in the rate of those who do not watch TV at all (11.1%), and there is a significant increase in watching intervals of 3-4 hours and more than 4 hours; there is a serious increase in the rate of watching educational/documentary programs and TV series/cinema-style programs; there is no significant difference in reading magazine and newspaper times; there is a very small increase in radio listening times. These data obtained as a result of the survey were also confirmed as a result of the interviews with the teachers.
