An Analysis of Horror Genre Works Addressing Children in Terms of Literary Fiction and Pedagogical Function
Abstract
Çocuk, çevresinde olup bitenleri merakla keşfetmeye, tanımaya ve anlamlandırmaya çalışan bir bireydir. Yeterli düzeyde yaşam deneyimine sahip olmadığı için çocukların dış dünyadan daha fazla etkilendikleri ve içsel açıdan da değişim ve dönüşümlere daha açık oldukları bilinen bir gerçektir. Ayrıca daha geniş bir düş dünyasına sahip olan çocukların gelişimlerinin desteklenmesi açısından çocuk edebiyatı yapıtlarının önemli bir işlevi vardır. Özellikle çocukların farklı yazınsal türdeki yapıtlarla buluşması çocuğun yaşamı ve insanı farklı bakış açılarından, farklı boyutlardan görmesine hizmet eder. Bu açıdan insan doğasının korku yönünü merkeze alan korku türündeki yapıtlar çocuk okurun gelişimine destek verebilen özgül bir edebiyat alanıdır. Bu çalışmanın ana amacı çocuklara seslenen korku türündeki yapıtları yazınsal kurgu ve pedagojik işlev açısından incelemektir. Çalışmanın veri kaynağını, çocuklara seslenen 11 korku türündeki yapıt oluşturmaktadır. Veriler nitel araştırma yönteminin veri toplama tekniklerinden doküman inceleme yoluyla toplanmış, betimsel analiz yapılarak çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda incelenen korku türündeki yapıtlarda yer alan temel karakterlerin çoğunlukla devingen ve açık karakterler olduğu, cinsiyetlerin eşit bir biçimde dağılım gösterdiği, yaş aralıklarının 7-14 olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca söz konusu yapıtlarda olay örgüsünün genel olarak döngüsel olay örgüsü ile kurgulandığı; ele alınan yapıtlarda anlatıcıların senöyküsel, benöyküsel ve elöyküsel anlatım tarzını benimsedikleri; korku duyulan mekanın çoğunlukla karanlık bir oda olduğu ve zamanın ise gece olduğu görülmüştür. Yapıtlardaki korku kaynaklarının çeşitlilik gösterdiği, çoğunlukla fantastik figürlerin olduğu; temel karakterlerin korkularının üstesinden gelmek için geliştirdiği davranışın çoğunlukla korkularla yüzleşmek olduğu ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Bununla birlikte çalışma kapsamında incelenen korku türündeki yapıtların değerler eğitimi açısından da zengin bir içeriğe sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Yapıtlarda hedef kitleyi olumsuz etkileyecek durumlara yer verilmediği gözlemlenmiştir. Yapıtların dil ve anlatım açısından yetkin bir biçimde düzenlendiği ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Sonuç olarak incelenen korku türü yapıtlarının çocuklarının korkularının üstesinden gelmek için pedagojik bir rol üstlenebileceği düşünülmektedir.
A child is an individual who tries to explore, know and understand what is going on around himself with in a curious way. It is a known fact that as children are not sufficiently experienced in life, they are more vulnerable to outer world and they are more prone to changes and transformations sensually. Besides, in terms of supporting the development of children who has a broader imaginary world, children's literature products have an important function. To encounter with works from many literary genres, in particular, allows children to perceive life and people from various perspectives and aspects. In this regard, horror-type works that focus on the dread component of human nature are a special genre of literature that can aid young readers' development. The major goal of this research is to look at horror genre works that appeal to kids in terms of literary fiction and educational value. The study's data source consists of 11 horror-type works aimed towards youngsters. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research methodologies, was used to collect data, which was then evaluated using the descriptive approach. As a result of the study, it was discovered that the major protagonists in horror films are generally dynamic and open personalities, that genders are evenly divided, and that the ages vary from 7 to 14. Furthermore, the plot is generally fictionalized with a cyclical plot in the works in question; the narrators adopt the first-narrative style, the second-narrative style, and the third-narrative style in the works in question; it has been observed that the feared place is mostly a dark room and the time is night in the works in question. It has been revealed that the sources of fear in the works are varied, mostly fantastic figures, and the behaviour developed by the main characters to overcome their fears is mostly to face fears. However, it has been determined that the horror genre works examined within the scope of the study also have a rich content in terms of values education. It has been observed that the works do not include situations that will negatively affect the target audience. It was revealed that the works were arranged competently in terms of language and expression. As a consequence, it has been discovered that the horror genre works studied may be used as an educational tool to help youngsters overcome their phobias.
