The Role of Emotional Intelligence Perception in the Effect of Nepotism on Occupational Burnout
Abstract
The employees, who have an important place in the structure of the business, have an important role in the success as well as the efficiency of the business. Especially the performance of the employees of the health sector is extremely important. The determinants of this performance may be the concepts of nepotism, occupational burnout and emotional intelligence. Nepotism is the privilege offered to an individual only because he is a family member, ignoring fairness and justice. Occupational burnout is the manifestation of negative situations experienced by the employee in business life as emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and a sense of personal failure. Emotional intelligence, on the other hand, is the ability to understand emotions that an individual can develop at any age, to empathize and evaluate emotions. This study aims to examine the role of emotional intelligence perception in the effect of nepotism on occupational burnout. In this study, the data obtained from 392 employees working in two hospitals operating in the province of Van were analyzed using the survey method. In the study, SPSS 25 package program and Hayes' Process macro were used for statistical analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it was found that nepotism positively affects occupational burnout, while emotional intelligence negatively affects occupational burnout. In addition, it has been determined that nepotism positively affects emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, which is the sub-dimensions of occupational burnout. Moreover, it has been found that evaluating the feelings of others, which are one of the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence, using emotions and regulating emotions negatively affect personal failure, which is a sub-dimension of occupational burnout. In addition, it has been observed that there is no regulatory role of emotional intelligence in the effect of nepotism on occupational burnout.
