Investigation of the Problem Solving and Posing Skills for About Ratio and Proportion Subjects of 6th and 7th Grade Students

Abstract

Bu araştırmada 6. ve 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin oran orantı konusundaki problem çözme ve kurma becerilerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın tamamında 46 altıncı sınıf öğrencisi ve 61 yedinci sınıf öğrencisi yer almış olup bunlardan 6 altıncı sınıf ve 6 yedinci sınıf öğrencisi ile klinik mülakatlar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Altıncı ve yedinci sınıf öğrencilerine her iki sınıf düzeyine uygun ve sınıf düzeyindeki kazanımları içerecek şekilde problem çözme ve kurma formları oluşturulmuş ve uygulanmıştır. Hazırlanan 6.sınıf problem çözme ve kurma formu 5 problemden, 7.sınıf problem çözme ve kurma formu ise 6 problemden oluşmaktadır. Uygulama bir ders saati sürmüştür. Belirlenen öğrencilerle formlarda yer alan problemler üzerinden klinik mülakatlar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler 5 aşamadan oluşan aşamalı puanlama ölçeği ile betimsel olarak analiz edilmiş ve frekans, yüzde değerlerini içeren tablolar ile sunulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda tüm öğrenciler problemin değerlendirilmesi aşamasında en düşük performansı göstermiştir. Altıncı sınıf öğrencileri problemin anlaşılması aşamasında, yedinci sınıf öğrencileri seçilen stratejinin uygulanması aşamasında en yüksek başarıyı göstermiştir. Yedinci sınıf öğrencilerinin oran orantı problemlerinde içler dışlar çarpımı stratejisini sıklıkla tercih ettikleri bunun yanı sıra bu stratejiyi rastgele kullanabildikleri görülmüştür. Yapılan araştırma öğrencilerin büyük çoğunluğunun problem kurma aşamasında zorlandığını ve mantık hataları içeren problemler kurduğunu göstermektedir.

In this study, it was aimed to examine the problem-solving and construction skills of 6th and 7th-grade students on the subject of ratio and proportion. In this study, a case study from qualitative research methods was used. In the entire study, 46 sixth-grade students and 61 seventh-grade students participated in the research, and clinical interviews were conducted with 6 sixth-grade and 6 seventh-grade students. Problem-solving and construction forms were created and applied to the sixth and seventh-grade students in a way that was appropriate for both grade levels and included the grade-level achievements. The 6th grade problem-solving and construction form consists of 5 problems and the 7th grade problem-solving and construction form consists of 6 problems. The application lasted one lesson hour. Clinical interviews were conducted with the identified students over the problems in the forms. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively with a 5-stage Rubric and presented in tables including frequency and percentage values. As a result of the study, all students showed the lowest performance at the problem evaluation stage. Sixth-grade students showed the highest success at the problem-understanding stage and seventh-grade students showed the highest success at the implementation of the selected strategy stage. It was observed that seventh-grade students frequently preferred the cross-multiplication strategy in proportion problems, but they could also use this strategy randomly. The study shows that the majority of the students had difficulty in the problem-posing stage and posed problems with logic errors.
