Monuments of Atatürk in the Mediterranean Region

Abstract

Akdeniz Bölgesi'ndeki Atatürk Anıtları baslıklı bu tez çalısmam, bölgedeki sekiz il (Adana, Antakya/Hatay, Antalya, Burdur, Mersin/çel, Isparta, Kahramanmaras, Osmaniye) ve bunlara baglı ilçeleri kapsamaktadır. Çalısmada bu il ve ilçelerde yer alan Atatürk Anıtları'nın bir envanteri çıkarılmıstır. l ve ilçelerin alfabetik dizilisine göre sıralanan katalog bölümünde, bölgedeki Atatürk Anıtları'nın bilgileri de belli bir sıra takip edilerek sunulmustur. Akdeniz Bölgesi'ndeki Atatürk Anıtları'nda Atatürk, genellikle tek figürlü olarak karsımıza çıkmaktadır. 84 anıt içinde 14'ü çok figürlü olarak düzenlenmistir. Anıtların büyük bölümünde Atatürk sivil kimligiyle betimlenmistir ve elinde Nutuk, Anayasa ve Bilim Sanat kitaplarını tutmaktadır. Asker kimliginin vurgulandıgı heykellerde asker, subay ve Baskomutan olarak yansıtılmıstır. Asker olarak gösterildigi sekiz anıtta Atatürk at üzerindedir. Bölgede bulunan Atatürk Anıtları'nda heykel malzemesi olarak bronz, fiberglas, polyester kullanılırken kaide ise mermer, granit, düzgün kesme tastan meydana gelmektedir. Kaidelerin üstünde ya Atatürk'ün sözleri ya da Kurtulus Savası'ndan ve Atatürk devrimlerinden sahnelere yer verilen rölyefler yer almaktadır. Anıtların bulundugu meydanlarda veya kamu kurumlarında çevre düzenlemesine önem verilmis; çesitli bitki ve çiçekler ekilerek çevrenin güzellestirilmesine çalısılmıstır.

The thesis that I prepared about Monuments of Atatürk in the Region of Akdeniz contains eight (8) cities (Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Burdur, Mersin, Isparta, Kahramanmaras, Osmaniye) and their districts in this region. For that reason an inentory of Monuments of Atatürk-that are determined in these cities and their districts ? is prepared. In the catalogue that is designed according to the alphabetical order of cities, informaiton of Monuments of Atatürk is designed with an order, too. In the Monuments of Atatürk, Atatürk can be seen not only as a figure but also with a group. The sculpters of these monuments designed the statues according to their own pleasure but didn?t forget to take care of the lacation of the region. Especially, in the places where the Turkish War of Independece was really hard, Atatürk is generally seen in Military Uniforms and as a Field Marshal or Commander ?in ?chief. In other areas ,he is seen not only as a soldier but also as a School principal and the President of Turkish Republic.In universities and in front of court-houses he is always seen as a civilian and with Nutuk (one of the he wroote) Turkish Constitutient or Sceience ?Art books in his hand. In the Monuments of Atatürk in this region , bronze is used as a material for the statues.Marble ,granite and well-cut stones are used in making pedestal.On those pedestals,there are either sentences of Atatürk or scenes of the War of Independence , and bas-relieves. with scenes of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as a School principal on them. In the public areas or the public institutions where Monuments of Atatürk are placed, surrounding arrangements are considered to be beautiful by planting many kinds of plants and flowers.
