Abstract
The architectural heritage of a region represents a clear reflection of the identity and civilization of that region and the link between the past and present of that region, its heritage and originality. In order to adapt to the conditions of the times and ongoing transformations, this architectural heritage must be preserved and rehabilitated in order to preserve and develop it. The design of new buildings in heritage sites is a major challenge. The design of the newly built building should be in harmony with its urban environment. Otherwise, this building will be unfamiliar to its surroundings and cause visual impetus. But at the same time, since one does not want to live in a historical museum or work within a uniform architectural framework, these buildings should be implemented without imitating earlier historical models. This study aims to focus on the architectural and urban heritage of the city of Kirkuk and to propose detailed solutions and designs to revitalize it, especially focusing on the problems and actions of destruction and change it is constantly exposed to. This work is also a step in the face of the challenges and ongoing attempts to destroy our historical architectural heritage.
