The Impact of Resilient Cities on Public Health

Abstract

Bu çalışma, dirençli kentlerin halk sağlığı üzerine etkilerini incelemektedir. Kentleşme süreci, modern çağda hızla artan kent nüfusları ile birlikte birçok sosyal, ekonomik ve çevresel sorunu beraberinde getirmiştir. Dirençli kentler, bu sorunlarla başa çıkabilme ve toplumsal dirençliliği artırma kapasitesine sahip kentler olarak tanımlanır. Tezde, dirençli kentlerin halk sağlığı üzerindeki olumlu etkileri; özellikle çevre sağlığı, altyapı hizmetleri, acil durum müdahaleleri ve sosyal dayanışma gibi alanlarda incelenmiştir. Halk sağlığının korunması ve iyileştirilmesi, dirençli kentlerin sürdürülebilirliği için kritik bir rol oynar. Ayrıca, bu çalışma, Türkiye'deki kentleşme sürecini ve dirençli kentlerin oluşturulmasında karşılaşılan zorlukları ele almaktadır. Çevre sağlığı, afet yönetimi, sosyo-ekonomik faktörler ve kentsel planlama gibi çeşitli alanlarda yapılan literatür taraması ile desteklenen tez, dirençli kentlerin halk sağlığını nasıl koruyup geliştirdiğini açıklamaktadır. Sonuç olarak, dirençli kentlerin halk sağlığına olan katkıları vurgulanmış ve bu kentlerin gelecekteki sürdürülebilir gelişim için önemli bir model oluşturduğu belirtilmiştir.

This study examines the effects of resilient cities on public health. The urbanization process has brought about many social, economic and environmental problems along with the rapidly increasing urban populations in the modern age. Resilient cities are defined as cities that have the capacity to cope with these problems and increase social resilience. In the thesis, the positive effects of resilient cities on public health; It has been examined especially in areas such as environmental health, infrastructure services, emergency responses and social solidarity. Protecting and improving public health plays a critical role in the sustainability of resilient cities. Additionally, this study addresses the urbanization process in Turkey and the challenges faced in creating resilient cities. The thesis, supported by a literature review in various fields such as environmental health, disaster management, socio-economic factors and urban planning, explains how resilient cities protect and improve public health. As a result, the contributions of resilient cities to public health are emphasized and it is stated that these cities constitute an important model for future sustainable development.
