İbâziyye’nin Dört Halifeye Bakışı: el-Vercelânî Örneği
Abstract
In the history of Islamic thought, issues related to faith and belief have been constantly discussed and the nature of these issues has been debated. It is seen that some of the debates that were traced during the lifetime of the Prophet began to surface after the Prophet's death and became more evident during the period of the four caliphs. As a result of the events that began with the Tahkim incident during the time of Hz. Ali, a group of Muslims who left the army of Hz. Ali (r.a.) and retreated to Harura, saying, 'The judgment belongs only to Allah,' formed the first political party known as the Kharijite. The Ibazis, who think differently from the Kharijites and have continued their existence to this day, like other Kharijite parties, accept the entire caliphate of Hz. Abu Bakr (r.a.) and Hz. Omar (r.a.), the first six years of Hz. Osman's (r.a.) caliphate, and the period of Hz. Ali's caliphate up to the Tahkim as just and legitimate. The subject of our study, warjalânî, is of Algerian origin and is known by the Ibāzī community with titles such as 'Allāma', 'es-Sirāj al-munīr' and 'Bahrü'l-Ulūm'. He is known as a scholar who has a deep knowledge in fields such as hadith, tafsir, fiqh, theology, philosophy, logic, history, Arabic language and literature, as well as astronomy, geography and chemistry. In this study, we aimed to investigate the Ibāziyya's views on the four caliphs from Warjalânî's perspective. In our research, we tried to explain Warjalânî's views. Warjalânî's work 'ed-Delil wa'l-Burhān' was used as an important source reflecting his views. We investigated the Ibāziyya's views on the four caliphs in detail and concluded that Warjalânî, an important scholar for the Ibāziyya, was an important figure in understanding Kharijism.
