Problems That Are Seen in Secondary Schools While Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Solutions for Them (a Search Made in Tatvan Town of Bitlis City)

Abstract

Matematik ögretiminin egitim sürecindeki yeri ve önemi gün geçtikçe artmaktadır. Çünkü bireyin edindigi matematiksel bilgi ve aldıgı matematik egitimi teknolojik, ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel yasamını dogrudan etkilemektedir. Bu nedenle, özellikle ögrenme alıskanlıklarının kazanıldıgı ve kalıcı hale geldigi ilkögretim yıllarının etkili bir biçimde degerlendirilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu düsüncelerle, ilkögretim okullarında matematik dersinde karsılasılan ögretim, ögrenme sorunlarının tespiti ve çözümü için sınıf ögretmenleri ile matematik ögretmenlerinin görüslerinin bu dogrultuda katkı saglayacagı tasarlandı. lk asamada, matematik ögretiminde karsılasılan ögretme ve ögrenme sorunlarına iliskin daha önce yapılmıs olan çalısmalar incelendi ve tartısıldı. Daha sonra ilkögretim matematik ögretiminde yasanan sorunların derecesini, durumunu ve sebeplerini içeren bir anket belirlendi. Bu anket Bitlis ili Tatvan ilçesi ile ilçe merkezine yakın köy ilkögretim okullarında çalısan sınıf ögretmenleri ile matematik ögretmenlerine uygulandı. Ayrıca Tatvan ilkögretim okulunda ögrenim gören 5. ve 8. sınıf ögrencilerine görüsme formu verilerek, ögrencilerin matematik ögrenmede çektikleri sıkıntılar tespit edilmeye çalısıldı. lkögretim okullarında matematik ögretiminde karsılasılan sorunlara yönelik hazırlanan anket çalısmasından elde edilen veriler SPSS 10.0 for Windows programı kullanılarak degerlendirildi. Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı 0.9258 olarak bulunmustur. Çalısmada elde edilen verilerin analizleri ( F ve testi kullanıldı, ayrıca ortalama ve frekans degerlerine bakıldı) sonuçlandırılıp, matematik ögretiminde karsılasılan ögretme ve ögrenme sorunları tartısılmaya çalısıldı. Arastırmada ulasılan sonuçların bu alanda yapılan diger arastırmalara katkı saglayacagı düsünülmektedir. The Place and significant of mathematics instruction in the process of education is increasing day by day. Because, the mathematical knowledge acquired by the individual and mathematical education affect his/her technologial, economic, social and cultural life directly. For that reason, especially in the period of primary school when learning habits gained and became permanent must evaluated efficiently. With these ideas in mind, for the discovery and solution of teaching and learning problems faced in the first stage at primary school in mathematics, it is planned the point of views of teachers and teacher trainees contribute to the solution. In the process, preliminary studies, that are related to the problems of instruction and learning in teaching mathematics have been examined and discussed. Later a questionare ,which consist of the problems reasons of those problems and the solutions for those problems in teaching mathematics is prepaired. Then this questionare is applied to the mathematic and class teachers working in the schools founded in the center, and villages close to the center of Bitlis City and Tatvan Town. Also interview form is given to the students of Tatvan secondary school in fifth and eight classes. With the help of this form the problems of students seen in learning mathematics is tried to be found. The data obtained from a questionnaire that is dealing with the problems and mathematics teaching at the secondary school was evaluated using SPSS 10.0 for Windows programme. Alpha reliability coefficient has been found out as 0.9258. The past analyses that have been obtained (F and t tests have been used, moreover the mean and the frequency results are observed.) have been resulted and the problems of instruction and learning faced in teaching mathematics in our country have been negotiated. It is thought that the results founded in that research contributed to the other research done in that field.
