Dynasties Fought by Sultan Mahmud During His Conquests of India
Abstract
DYNASTIES FOUGHT BY SULTAN MAHMUD DURING HIS CONQUESTS OF INDIA The aim of this thesis is to highlight the strategic importance of conquests by examining India's geographical position and historical context. The study provides an in-depth analysis of the political structures of significant dynasties such as the Pratiharas, Hindushahis, Jats, Tomara Dynasty, Lodi Dynasty, and Gujarat Chaulukyas, both militarily and culturally, during Sultan Mahmud's campaigns. By analyzing the historical geography of India, the influence of Turkic dynasties, and Sultan Mahmud's policies in the region, the thesis focuses on the spread of Islam and its cultural impacts in India. While previous academic research has concentrated on Sultan Mahmud's campaigns, the subject of whom he fought against during these campaigns has not been independently explored. In this context, another aim of the thesis is to introduce the aforementioned Northern Indian dynasties.
