Reflection of the 1935 International Women's Congress in the Turkish Press
Abstract
1935 Yılında Türk kadının meclise girmesiyle Uluslararası Kadın Kongresi yüzünü Türkiye ye çevirmiştir. Bu tarihlerde Fransa, Belçika, İtalya gibi birçok ülkede kadının seçme ve seçilme hakkı yoktu. Türk hükümetinin kadına verdiği önem ve kongre masraflarında cömert davranması kadınları Türkiye 'ye çekmiştir. İstanbul 'da toplanmak Asya ve Avrupa'dan gelecek kadınları ortada buluşturması açısından çok cazipti. 1935 kongresinin toplanma sebeplerinden en önemlisi barıştır. Bu tema zaten Atatürk 'ün 'Yurtta Barış Dünyada Barış|' sloganıyla özdeşleşiyordu. Bu kongre bu zamana kadar toplanan kadın kongrelerinin en büyüğü olmuştur. Kırka yakın ülkeden yüzlerce kadın haklarını savunmaya gelmiştir. Ülkemizden yirmi dört kadın katılmıştır. Kadınlar bu kongrede kadının politikadaki yeri, iş hayatındaki yeri ve kadın erkek eşitsizliğini tartışmışlar fikirlerini sunmuşlardır. Kadın katılımcılar her konuşmalarında Atatürk 'e olan hayranlıklarını dile getirip onun kadına verdiği önemi vurgulamışlardı. Bu kongre için bastırılan pullar ve dünyanın her yerinden gelen gazeteciler Türkiye ye karşı hayranlık uyandırıyor ve kadına verilen önemi gözler önüne seriyordu.
