Reasons for Students Preparing for University Examination To Prefer Mathematics Teaching

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite sınavına hazırlanan ve matematik öğretmenliği bölümünü seçmeyi düşünen öğrencilerin seçimlerinde etkilendiği faktörleri belirlemektir. Bu doğrultuda çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden odak grup görüşme tekniğine uygun olarak düzenlenmiştir. Bu görüşmeler çerçevesinde uygun bir ortamda öğrencilerin konuyla ilgili algıları ve dikkat çekmek istedikleri durumlar tartışma konusudur. Bu araştırma 2018-2019 Eğitim - Öğretim yılında Van ilinin İpekyolu ilçesindeki özel bir eğitim kursunda matematik düzeyinde sınava hazırlanan 20 öğrencinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Katılımcılar yaş, cinsiyet, sosyoekonomik, kültürel, çevresel, bilimsel, medyatik, web tabanlı vs. özellikleri dikkate alınarak amaçlı örnekleme ile seçilmiştir. Katılımcıların her birine araştırma hakkında önceden bilgilendirme yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin bu meslek tercihi ile ilgili görüşleri ele alınmıştır. Bu doğrultuda öğrencilerin kararlarında etkili olan faktörlerden bazıları şunlardır: • Ailesinde ve yakın çevresinde bu mesleği seçenler • Ailesinin eğitim düzeyi • Eğitime katkıda bulunabileceğini düşünmesi • Sosyal yönünün güçlü olması • Öğretmenine olan sevgisi • Kutsal bir meslek olduğu düşüncesi • Kişinin web tabanlı incelemelerde bu mesleğe olan ilgisi • İş garantisi

The aim of this study is to determine the factors that affect students' choices in preparing students for mathematics education. In this direction, the study was arranged in accordance with the focus group interview technique which is one of the qualitative research methods. Within the framework of these interviews, students' perceptions and situations that they want to draw attention in a suitable environment are the subject of discussion. This research was carried out with the participation of 20 students preparing for mathematics exam in a special training course in Ipekyolu district of Van province in 2018-2019 academic year. Participants were age, gender, socioeconomic, cultural, environmental, scientific, media, web-based, etc. It was selected with purposeful sampling considering the characteristics. Each participant was informed in advance about there search. As a result of this research, students' opinions about this profession preference were discussed. Some of the factors that affect students' decisions are as follows: • Those who chose this profession in their family and close vicinity • Family education level • To think that it can contribute to education • Strong social aspect • His love for his teacher • The idea of a sacred profession • One's interest in this profession in web-based reviews • Business guarantee
