Chomsky's Cartesian Linguistics Conception

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Chomsky'nin Kartezyen dil anlayışı, yani dilin apriori yönü üzerine yaptığı tespitlerin incelenmesi esas konudur. Dilin doğuştanlığı görüşünün dil felsefesindeki yeri ve Chomsky ile nasıl şekillendiği ve dil incelemeleri sırasında geliştirdiği kuramların neler olduğu ele alınmıştır. Tezin diğer bölümünde ise Platon'dan Chomsky'ye gelen süreçte dil anlayışının geçirdiği değişimin dil felsefesini nasıl etkilediği irdelenmiştir. Tüm bu veriler ışığında Chomsky, dil yetisini varoluşumuzun ilk anlarından itibaren bize verili olan bir yetenek olarak tanımlamış ve bu yetenek sayesinde insanın, sonlu sayıda sistemle sonsuz sayıda ifade üretebilen bir mekanizmaya sahip olduğunu savunmuştur. Dil yetimizin önemli bir kısmını genetik olarak edindiğimiz görüşünü öne süren Chomsky, bu konudaki özgünlüğünü ortaya koyduğu kuramlarla da desteklemiştir. Çalışmada konu edindiğim zihin ve dil ilişkisi Chomsky'nin tüm yapıtlarında esas temadır. Bunun yanı sıra evrensel dilbilgisi ve üretici (dönüşümsel) dilbilgisi kuramlarını da ilk defa Chomsky öne sürmüştür.

In this study, Chomsky's Cartesian linguistics conception; namely, the a priori direction of the language on analysing the points is the pivotal subject. The place of the idea of the Innatism of language in the philosophy of language, and how it is shaped with Chomsky, and the theories developed during language studies are tackled. In the other part of the thesis, it is researched thoroughly how the change in the understanding of language affects the philosophy of language in the process from Plato to Chomsky. In the light of all these data, Chomsky defines the language ability as an ability that given to us from the first moments of our existence, and through this ability, he argues that man possesses a mechanism which is capable of producing an infinite number of expressions with a finite number of systems. Chomsky puts forward that we genetically acquire a significant part of our language, and he supports his originality with his theories. The very relationship between the mind and the language that I have examined in this study is the essential theme in all Chomsky's works. In addition, Chomsky puts forward the theories of Universal Grammar and Productive (Transformational) Grammar for the first time.
