Comparison of Physical Activity Levels of Secondary School Students by Gender in Van's İpeyolu District
Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to compare the physical activity (PA) levels of secondary school students in the İpekyolu district of Van by gender. The research group was carried out with a total of 465 students studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in the İpekyolu district of Van. 50.3% of the participants are female and 49.7% of the male participants. Analysis of the data obtained SPSS 25.0 Windows package program was used. To the findings obtained as a result of the research, the rate of active students was 12.5%, the rate of moderately active students was 71.2%, the rate of low-level active students was 15.9%, and the rate of inactive students was 0.4%. The difference between the gender variable and the BMI value was examined (P<0.05). In this context, the difference between the gender variable and BMI was found to be statistically significant (P<0.05). When the average score obtained from the physical activity scale for children is examined, on the average value was found as 19.96. According to this; it was determined that the most active age group was 12 years old with an average of 20.92. In the continuation of the table examinations, the age group of 10 with an average of 20.47 was identified as active. Participants aged 15 were found to be the most inactive students of the group, with an average of 18.91. As a result; Majority of the students in the study It was determined that their activity level was moderate and they had a body mass index of 17.3±2.6. Keywords: body mass index, physical activity.
