Examining the Process of Solving Skill-Based Questions of Secondary School 7th Grade Students According To Their Use of Mathematics Knowledge and Their Levels of Reading

Abstract

Matematiğin hayatımızda kapladığı yer, matematik eğitimini önemli bir hale getirmektedir. Matematik eğitiminde amaç, doğru bir şekilde düşünüp analiz edebilmeyi alışkanlık haline getirmek diyebiliriz. Diğer ülkelerle birlikte ülkemiz Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı (MEB), matematikteki başarıyı ulusal ve uluslararası alanda artırmak için çeşitli yöntemler denemektedir. LGS sınav sitemi de bu yöntemlerden biri olmakla beraber MEB, ezberci bir anlayıştan ziyade temel zihinsel becerilerin ölçüldüğü bir anlayışa geçiş yapmıştır. LGS ile hayatımıza giren beceri temelli soruları çözmek bir alışkanlık gerektirdiğinden ve daha fazla benimsenmesi gerektiği düşünüldüğünden LGS öncesi süreçte, ortaokul 7.sınıf öğrencilerinin beceri temelli soruları çözme sürecinin matematik bilgisi kullanımı ve kitap okuma düzeylerine göre incelenmesinin matematik eğitimine ve matematik sınavlarındaki başarıyı artırmaya katkı sağlayacağı düşülmüştür. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak MEB tarafından yayımlanan 7.sınıf matematik dersi beceri temelli sorulardan cebirsel ifadeler- eşitlik denklem ünitesi ve oran orantı- yüzdeler ünitesi ile ilgili toplamda 10 sorudan oluşan beceri temelli sorular testi ve 8 sorudan oluşan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Katılımcılar, amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden biri olan ölçüt örnekleme yöntemi ile belirlenmiş ve matematik başarısı yüksek 6 öğrenci ile çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın katılımcılarını Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi'nde öğrenim gören 7.sınıf düzeyinde 6 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Öğrencilerden elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesinde içerik analizi kullanılmıştır.

The place mathematics occupies in our lives makes mathematics education significant. Along with other countries, the Ministry of National Education in our country has been trying various methods to increase achievement in mathematics nationally and internationally. Ministry of National Education has shifted from a rote memorization approach to one that measures basic cognitive skills, and the LGS exam system is one of them. Since it is thought that solving skill-based problems, which entered our lives with LGS, requires a habit and should be adopted more, it is thought that examining the process of solving skill-based questions of middle school 7th grade students in the pre-LGS process according to the use of mathematical knowledge and book reading levels will contribute to mathematics education and increase success in mathematics exams. In the study, a skill-based questions test consisting of a total of 10 questions related to algebraic expressions - equality and equation unit and correct ratio, proportion and percentages unit from the 7th grade mathematics course skill-based questions published by the Ministry of National Education and a semi-structured interview form consisting of 8 questions were used as data collection tools. Participants were determined by criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods, and 6 students with high math achievement were studied. The participants of the study consisted of 6, 7th grade students studying in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Content analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from the students.
