The Role of Mezhep Difference in the Construction of Ethnic Identity: The Case of Zazas

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Türkiye'nin çeşitli bölgelerinde yaşayan Zazaların, din-mezhep değişkeni çerçevesinde, etnik kimliklerinin incelenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Bu tez çerçevesinde temel alınan etnik grup Zazalardır. Mezhep ile ifade edilmek istenen ise Alevi ve Sünni gruplardır. Böylece araştırmada, Sünni Zaza ve Alevi Zaza gruplarındaki dini ve etnik kimliği karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmada Elazığ'da Alevi ve Sünni Zazaların yoğun olarak yaşadığı mahallelerde Zaza etnik kimliğinin inşasında ait olunan mezhebin etkisine bakılmıştır. Elazığ'da gerçekleşen alan araştırması sonucunda Alevi ve Sünni Zazaların etnik kimlik inşalarında mezhep farklılığının etkin rol oynadığı tespit edilmiştir.

In this study, the Zaza living in various regions of Turkey, taking in the framework of religions and sects variable, which is aimed at examining the ethnic identity. The ethnic group based on this thesis is the Zazas. The denomination is Alevi and Sunni groups. Thus, in the study, the religious and ethnic identity of Sunni Zaza and Alevi Zaza groups were examined comparatively. In this study, the effect of religion and sect on the construction of Zaza ethnic identity in the neighborhoods where Alevi and Sunni Zazas live in Elazığ are examined. In the field research conducted in Elazığ, it was found that the difference of religion and sect played a major role in the construction of ethnic identity in the process of identity building of Alevi and Sunni Zazas.
