The Effects of Application of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungus (AMF) on the Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Potyvirus – ZYMV in the Some of the Summer Squash Cultivars

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Arbusküler Mikorhizal Fungus (AMF) uygulamalarının kabak (Cucurbita pepo L.) yetiştiriciliğinde oldukça önemli sorun olan ve verim kayıplarına yol açan Zucchini yellow mosaic potyvirus (ZYMV) patojeninin yol açtığı mozaik hastalığına ve kabak bitkisinin bazı gelişim (morfolojik ve fizyolojik) parametreleri üzerine etkisi incelenmiştir.Denemede kullanılan uygun kabak çeşidi x AMF türü kombinasyonunu bulmak amacıyla iklim odasında kontrollü şartlarda üç farklı kabak çeşidi (Comet F1, Focus F1 ve Sakız) dört farklı AMF türü ile (Gigaspora margarita, Glomus mossease, Glomus intraradices ve Ticari AMF) inokule edilmişlerdir. Gerek kolonizasyon ve gerekse mikorhizal bağımlılık açısından en iyi uyum Sakız x Ticari AMF, Focus F1 x Ticari AMF ve Comet F1 x Glomus mosseae kombinasyonlarında belirlenmiştir.Çalışma sonucunda; AMF uygulamalarının kabak bitkisinin bitki gelişimini pozitif yönde etkilediği ortaya konmuştur. Klorofil içeriğinin genel olarak ZYMV ve AMF inokule edilmiş bitkilerde kontrol bitkilerine göre düştüğü, fosfor içeriği açısından ise uygulamalar arasında istatistiki açıdan önemli farklılıkların olmadığı görülmüştür. AMF x ZYMV patosisteminde ise mikorhizal bitkilerde hastalık şiddetinin mikorhizal olmayanlara göre arttığı, buna karşılık, virüs konsantrasyonunun düştüğü belirlenmiştir.Anahtar kelimeler: Kabak, Arbusküler Mikorhiza Fungus (AMF), Kabak sarı mozaik virüsü (Zucchini yellow mosaic potyvirus - ZYMV)

In this study, the effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) was investigated on the growth of summer squash (Cucurbita pepo L.) and yellow mosaic disease caused by Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Potyvirus (ZYMV) which has been known as an important problem of summer squash cultivation and leading yield losses.Under controlled conditions, three summer squash cultivars were inoculated (Comet F1, Focus F1 and Sakız) with four different AMF strains (Gigaspora margarita, Glomus mossease, Glomus intraradices and commercially AMF) in order to determine the most appropriate combination of summer squash cultivar and AMF species to be used in studies. The best affinity was determined between Sakız x Commercially AMF, Focus F1 x Commercially AMF and Comet F1 x Glomus mosseae combinations in point of not only colonization but also mycorrhizal dependency and these combinations were used in the second experiment.At the end of the study, it was found that the application of AMF was encouraged plant growth positively. Generally, chlorophyll contents in plants were decreased with the AMF and ZYMV inoculations compared to control plants. The phosphorus content in terms of the differences between applications was not statistically significant. It was determined disease severity was increased mycorrhizal plants compared non-mycorrhizal plants, in turn, virus concentration was decreased in the pathosystem of AMF and ZYMV.Key words: Summer squash, Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), Zucchini yellow mosaic potyvirus (ZYMV)
