Abstract
With this research, the effect of the activity-based approach in active learning on the academic success and attitudes of 7th grade secondary school students in social studies course was examined. In the research, quantitative method, pre-test post-test Quasi experimental model with control group was applied. The study group in the research consisted of 7th grade students studying at a public school in Tuşba district of Van province in the 2021-2022 academic year. It consisted of 44 students in classes 7/A (Experimental group) and 7/B (Control group). While selecting these classes, attention was paid to ensure that their school average achievements were similar. Before the study, the achievement test and the pre-test of the attitude scale were applied to the groups. Then, the control group was taught with the traditional method, and the experimental group was taught with activity-based teaching, covering the economics and social life unit gains for 5 weeks (15 hours). At the end of the application, the achievement test and the post-test of the attitude scale were applied to both groups. Considering the findings, a significant difference emerged in the success scores and attitudes of the students in the experimental group towards the course. In this case, it has been observed that the application of activity-based teaching positively affects students' academic success and attitude towards social studies course.
