University-City Relationship: the Sample of Van Yuzuncu Yıl University

Abstract

Eğitim, dünyada çağdaş bir yaşam sürdürmenin en önemli gerekliliklerinden biridir. Eğitimin en üst halkasını oluşturan üniversiteler ise yenilik ve gelişmişliğin temel göstergelerindendir. Üniversiteler, kuruldukları tarihten günümüze kadar gelişip büyürken aynı zamanda bulundukları kentin toplumsal yaşamını da ekonomik, sosyal, kültürel ve teknolojik anlamda geliştirip değiştirmektedir. 1982 yılında kurulan Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi kuruluşundan bugüne gelişip büyümekte aynı zamanda bulunduğu kenti de etkilemektedir. Bu çalışmada amaç, üniversite-kent ilişkisinin tarihsel gelişimini açıklamak, üniversitenin kente sunduğu hizmetin/hizmetlerin toplumun beklentilerini yeterli bir düzeyde karşılayıp karşılamadığını belirlemeye çalışmak, Ar-Ge ve danışmanlık hizmetlerinin yerel ekonomiye ve istihdama etkilerini yorumlamak ve üniversitenin kentin ekonomik, sosyal, kültürel alanlarda gelişimini açıklamaya çalışmaktır. Bu nedenle çalışmada 300 kent esnafına anket uygulaması yapılmış olup toplumu temsil eden farklı kesimler ile de (sivil toplum kuruluşları, siyasal partiler, yerel yöneticiler) görüşme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilere göre; üniversite, büyüyüp gelişirken aynı zamanda kenti de sosyo-ekonomik ve kültürel açıdan oldukça geliştirmekte ve değiştirmektedir. Ancak kent merkezine olan uzaklığı üniversite-kent ilişkisini zayıflatmakta ve bunun doğal sonucu olarak kentin beklentilerini karşılama, Ar-Ge ve danışmanlık hizmetlerinde bulunma ve bilimsel çalışmaların kent ile paylaşılması gibi birçok önemli hizmeti sekteye uğratmaktadır. Bu nedenle üniversite-kent ilişkisini güçlendirmek için mekansal olarak kent merkezine olan uzaklık sorununu iyileştirmek amacıyla ulaşımın iyileştirilip çeşitlendirilmesi, yöre halkı ile iletişimi sağlamak, kentin üniversitesi olmak için ise kent sorunlarının çözümüne yönelik bilimsel çalışmalar ve uygulamaların arttırılması ve bu çalışmaların kent ile bir arada gerçekleştirilmesi gerekmektedir. Education is one of the most essential requirements of maintaining a modern life in the world. The universities that constitute the top ring of education are the main indicators of innovation and development. Universities have been developing and expanding from the date they were founded to the present, and at the same time they develop and change the social life of the city they are located in the economic, social, cultural and technological sense. Founded in 1982, Van Yuzuncu Yil University has been developing and growing since its foundation and it also affects its city. The aim of this study is to explain the historical development of the university-city relationship, to determine whether the service / services offered by the university meet the expectations of the society at an adequate level, to interpret the effects of R & D and consultancy services on the local economy and employment. For this reason, 300 tradespeople in the city were interviewed and interview technique was used with different groups representing the society (non-governmental organizations, political parties, local administrators). According to the data obtained; As the university grows and develops, it also develops and changes the city from a socio-economic and cultural perspective. However, the distance to the city center weakens the relationship between the university and the city and, as a result of this, many important services such as meeting the expectations of the city, providing R & D and consultancy services and sharing scientific studies with the city are disrupted. For this reason, in order to improve the problem of distance from the city center in order to strengthen the relationship between the city and the city, it is necessary to improve the diversify of the transportation ; additionally, in order to be the university of the city, it is essential to provide communication with the local people and increase the scientific studies and applications for the solution of the city's problems. .
