Gestational Gigantomastia After the Breast Reduction Surgery: a Case Report

Abstract

Gestational gigantomastia is a rare and complex disorder characterized by massive enlargement of breasts during pregnancy and resulting in tissue necrosis, ulceration, infection. In most cases, gigantomastia is caused by an excess of circulating hormones or by the hypersensitivity of mammary tissue to normal hormone stimulation. Medical therapies to treat gestational gigantomastia are unpredictable in outcome. Breast reduction or mastectomy with delayed reconstruction is the preferred surgical procedure. If the mother is considering future pregnancies, mastectomy offers the lowest risk of recurrence. The present case with gestational gigantomastia is a patient who was underwent breast reduction using with free nipple reduction technique after the previous pregnancy.
