Art of Inscription in Turkish Architecture in Van Lake Basin

Abstract

Van, Bitlis ve Muş illerini kapsayan Van Gölü havzası, coğrafî ve stratejik önemi sebebiyle tarih boyunca önemli yerleşimlere sahne olmuştur. Bölge, bu özelliğini Türk döneminde de sürdürmüş, Van, Bitlis ve Ahlat gibi tarihî derinliği olan merkezlerde önemli ölçüde kültür varlığı oluşmuştur. XII. yy. 'dan XIX. yy. 'a kadar bölgede oluşan bu eserlerde yazıya önemli ölçüde yer verildiği görülmektedir. Bölgede Türk dönemine ait 56 yapı üzerinde yazının kullanıldığı tesbit edilmiştir. Çalışmamızda bu yazılar yerinde incelenmiş, ölçüleri alınarak fotoğrafları çekilmiştir. Şekil, içerik ve sanatsal boyutuyla irdelenen söz konusu yazılar, transkribe edilerek daha düzgün bir şekilde anlamlandırılmıştır. Yapılan araştırmada, bölge mimarisinde yer alan yazıların, yoğunluk sırasına göre sülüs, ma'kılî ta'lik ve kûfî türlerinin celî tarzda uygulamalarına rastlanmıştır. Yazılarda kullanılan dil, çoğunlukla Arapça'dır. Özellikle erken dönem yapılarında görülen Arapça'yı sırasıyla Türkçe ve Farsça izlemektedir. Yazıların konusunu daha çok kimlik ve tarih bilgileri oluşturmaktadır. Ancak, dinsel metin içerikli yazılar da az değildir. Yazılar, taş ve mermer malzeme üzerine kabartma, sınırlı sayıda da kazıma tekniğiyle işlenmiştir. Türk - İslâm mimarisinin genelinde görüldüğü gibi, bölge mimarisinde de yazı, bazen işlevsel, bazen dekoratif, bazen de sanat kaygısı ve amacıyla yoğun bir şekilde yer almıştır.

259 Involving the cetees Van, Bitlis and Muş, Lake Van basin was subjected to significant settings due to its geographic and strategic importance throughout the history the region has already continued this specialty in Turkish history ant there has existed cultural entities in great numbers in the centres that have deep historical roots, like Van, Bitlis and Ahlat. Starting from 12th century to 19th century it was observed that inscription was seriously applied in these monuments established in the region. It has been revealed that inscription was used in some 56 monuments which belong to Turkish reign in the region. The photographes of there inscriptions were taken by examining in the original places and their dimonsions were measured in our study. The mentioned inscriptions, which were examined in form, content and artistic views, were given meanings in a proper way through transcription. It was determined that thi inscriptions existed in the architecture of the region were the application of cell style of sülüs, ma 'kill ta 'lik and kufi types with respect to density proportion. The language used in the inscriptions is mainly Arabic. Arabic which is mostly seen in the early period monuments is followed by Turkish and Persian respectively. The subjects of the inscriptions rather deal with information about identity and history. Yet, texts including religious writings are not inconviderable. The inscriptions were applied on pieces such as stone and marble mostly with an embossed and sometimes with an engraved technic. As it is quite evident in most of Turkish - Islamic architecture, inscription has been intensely used in the region's architecture compiled to here functional, here decorative and here artistic purposes.
