The Effect of Active Learning Methods on Oral Communication Skills of the 5th Grade Students (speech-Listening) and Opinions of the Students on Active Learning Practices

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, 5.sınıf öğrencilerinin; Türkçe konuşma becerilerini geliştirme, konuşma kaygılarını giderme, Türkçe dinleme beceri ve başarılarını geliştirmede aktif öğrenme tekniklerinin etkisini belirlemek ve aktif öğrenme uygulamalarına ilişkin görüşlerini incelemektir. Araştırmada nitel ve nicel araştırma tekniklerinin birlikte kullanıldığı 'karma yöntem' kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel boyutunda ön-son test kontrol gruplu deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nitel boyutunda deney grubu öğrencilerinin aktif öğrenme uygulamalarına yönelik görüşlerini almak için yapılandırılmış görüş bildirim formuyla görüşler toplanmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizinde nicel, nitel verilerin analizinde ise nitel analiz teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma gruplarını 2017-2018 eğitim-öğretim yılı güz döneminde Van Merkez İpekyolu İlçesi'nde eğitim-öğretim faaliyetini sürdüren bir devlet ortaokulunun 5. sınıfına devam eden 61 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Deney ve kontrol grupları rastgele (random) belirlenmiştir. Buna göre 30 öğrenci deney grubunda, 31 öğrenci ise kontrol grubunda yer almıştır. Öğrencilerin demografik ve akademik başarıları birbirine benzerdir. Deneysel uygulamalar sonunda aktif öğrenme tekniklerinin; öğrencilerin Türkçe konuşma becerilerinin geliştirilmesinde; Türkçe konuşma kaygılarının giderilmesinde, Türkçe dinleme akademik başarı ve becerilerinin geliştirilmesinde Türkçe Öğretim Programı (2017) çerçevesinde yapılan etkinliklere nazaran daha başarılı sonuçlar verdiği belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca deney grubunda bulunan öğrencilerin büyük çoğunluğunun aktif öğrenme uygulamalarına ilişkin olumlu görüşlere sahip oldukları belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçları, öğrencilerin Türkçe sözlü iletişim beceri ve başarılarının geliştirilmesinde aktif öğrenme yöntemi tekniklerinin daha yoğun kullanılması gerektiğini ortaya koymaktadır.

The purpose of this study is to improved Turkish speaking skills of the grade 5 studensts, relieved their anxiety about speaking, determined the effect of active learning techniques in developing Turkish listening skills and achievements and examined their views on active learning practices. In the study, 'Mixed method' is used, which is a method that the qualitative and quantitative research techniques are used together. In the quantitative dimension of the research, the experimental design with pre-post test control group was used. To get the views of experimental group students on active learning practices in the qualitative dimension of the research, the opinions gathered with structured opinion notification form. In the analysis of quantitative data quantitative techniques are used and also in the In qualitative data analysis, qualitative analysis techniques are used. The study groups consisted of 61 students attending the 5th grade of a public secondary school in the central city of Van Ipekyolu district in the fall semester of 2017-2018 academic year. The experimental and control groups were randomly determined. According to this, 30 students took part in the experimental group and 31 students were in the control group. The students' demographic and academic achievements are similar. At the end of experimental applications, ıt has been determined that active learning techniques has been more successful results, in the improve students' Turkish speaking skills; elimination of concerns in Turkish speaking, Turkish listening in the development of academic achievement and skills, than the activities in the framework of Turkish Curriculum (2017). In addition, it was determined that the majority of the students in the experimental group have positive opinions about active learning practices. The results of the study show that the active learning method techniques should be used more intensively in the development of Turkish oral communication skills and achievements.
