Enderun Example in the Ottoman Education System

Abstract

Bu çalışmada öncelikle Osmanlı Devleti'nde örgün eğitim sisteminde bulunan bazı kurumlar tek tek incelenmiş, kurumlar ile alakalı kısa ve öz bir şekilde bilgi verilmiştir. İlk olarak Osmanlı Devleti'nin ana yapısını ifade eden saray içinde bulunan eğitim kurumlarından bahsedilmiştir; Bunlardan birincisi, ileride padişah olacak şehzadelere eğitim verildiği şehzadegan mektebidir. İkincisi saray işlerini yürütecek ve ileriki zamanlarda devlet adamı olacak kişileri yetiştiren iç oğlan ocağıdır. İç oğlanları İslam kültürünü görerek ve yaşayarak öğrenmeleri amacıyla Müslüman ailelerin yanına verilirdi. Sonra hazırlık sarayları olan Edirne, Galatasaray, İbrahim Paşa saraylarında ön eğitimlerini alırlar daha sonra ise asıl eğitimlerini Enderun mektebinde tamamlamaktadırlar. Üçüncüsü ise kısmen de olsa Enderun mektebinin bayan izdüşümü olarak öngörülen, bayanlara eğitim verilen yer haremdir. Bir diğer bakımdan ise padişahın ailesinin yaşadığı bölümü ifade etmektedir. Bir sonraki bölümde ise Osmanlıda halka hitap eden eğitim kurumlarından da bahsedilmiştir. Bunlardan birincisi 4 yaş 4 ay 4 günlük iken çocukların başladığı ilkokula karşılık gelen Sıbyan mektepleridir. İkincisi Osmanlı devletinin temelini ifade eden medreselerdir. Medrese ilkokuldan sonra yüksek eğitim olarak adlandırılan belirli bölümlere ve kademelere göre ayrılmış eğitim kurumudur. Genel itibariyle bölümümüz ve alanımız gereği bu kurumların tamamını din eğitim açısından değerlendirmiş bulunmaktayız. Özellikle seçtiğimiz konu gereği aktarmak istediğimiz Osmanlı eğitim sisteminde bir örnek olan Enderun mektebinin genel eğitim durumunu anlatmanın yanı sıra din eğitimi açısından nasıl bir yol izlendiğini ortaya koymaktır. In the present study, firstly, some institutions in the formal education system of the Ottoman State were individually examined, brief and concise information about the institutions was offered. Initially, educational institutions in the palace, which expresses the main structure of the Ottoman State, were introduced. The first of these is the Shehzadegan Academy, where the princes who will become sultans in the future will be given education. The second is the guild of pages that trains people who will conduct the affairs of the palace and become statesmen in the future. Pages were given to Muslim families to learn about Islamic culture by living and seeing. Then they receive their pre-education in Edirne, Galatasaray, İbrahim Pasha palaces, which are preparation palaces, and then complete their primary education in Enderun. The third one, even partially, is the harem that gives education as a female projection of the Enderun school. This is the section of women who are brought up in the palace. In another respect, it refers to the part that is allocated to sultan's family. In the next chapter, education institutions addressing the people in the Ottoman Empire are also mentioned. The first of these is the Sıbyan schools, which correspond to the primary school where children start when they are 4 years, 4 months and 4 days old. The second one is the madrasahs that express the basis of the Ottoman state. Madrasah, which is called as advanced education after primary school, is an educational institution that is divided into certain departments and levels. Briefly, we have evaluated all of these institutions in terms of religious education as required by our department and research field. In particular, the purpose of the study is not only to put forth the general education status of the Enderun school, which is an example in the Ottoman education system, which we want to convey to you according to the subject we have chosen, but also to reveal the ways of religious education preferred.
