The Effect of Benefiting From History in Education of Mathematics on the Student's Attitudes Towards Mathematics and Their Success on It
Abstract
Bu arastırmada, matematik öğretimini destekleyici bir teknik olarak matematik tarihinden yararlanmanın, öğrencilerin akademik basarısına, derse karsı tutumlarına ve öğrenilenlerin kalıcılık düzeylerine etkisi arastırılmıstır. 7. Sınıf öğrencileri üzerinde yapılan arastırmada, ön test-son test kontrol gruplu deneysel modelden yararlanılmıstır. Deney grubu Van ili merkez ilköğretim okullarından 30 Ağustos ?lköğretim Okulu, kontrol grubu ise Hacı Ömer Sabancı ?lköğretim Okulu'ndan seçilmistir. Arastırma, 40 öğrenci deney, 45 öğrenci kontrol grubu olmak üzere toplam 85 öğrenci üzerinde uygulanmıstır. Kontrol grubunda dersler öğretmen kılavuz kitabı takip edilerek yürütülürken, deney grubunda buna ek olarak matematik tarihi tekniği uygulanmıstır. Arastırmada matematik tarihinin ders basarısına ve kalıcılık düzeylerine etkisini ölçmek amacıyla basarı testi ve öğrencilerin matematik dersine yönelik tutumlarını belirlemek amacıyla tutum ölçeği olmak üzere iki farklı veri toplama aracı kullanılmıstır. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde SPSS 10.0 paket programı kullanılmıstır. Gruplar normal dağılım gösterdiğinden analizlerde, iliskili ve iliskisiz t testinden faydalanılmıstır. Sonuçlar, matematik tarihi destekli islenen derslerin, sadece öğretmen kılavuzu kullanılarak islenen derslere göre tutum ve kalıcılık yönünden yöntemin, anlamlı bir farklılık olusturmadığını ancak basarı yönünden oldukça etkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Buna ek olarak deneysel çalısma sonucunda grupların basarılarının cinsiyete göre değismediği ortaya çıkmıstır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Matematik Tarihi, Matematik Öğretimi
In this study, the effects of the usage of the mathematics history as a supportive technique on student?s academical success, behavior towards the class and level of the permanence of the education taken are studied. Introduction test-final test controlling groupped experimental modelling is used on the study which was applied to seventh grade students. Experiment group was chosen from 30 Ağustos Elementary School one of the central Van elementary schools, and controlling group was chosen from Hacı Ömer Sabancı Elementary School. The Study was applied to a total of 85 (eighty five) students; 40 (forty) as the experiment and 45 (forty five) as the controlling group. While the teacher guide booklet was used teaching the control group, mathematics history technique also used as an addition teaching the experiment group. In the study, performance test was used to evaluate the effects of the mathematics history on class performance and level of permanence and behavioral scale was used to evaluate the student?s attitude towards math class making them two different data gathering tools. SPSS 10.0 was used to analyse the gathered data. Because the groups showed a normal distribution, relative and nonrelative ?t? tests were used in the analysis. The results showed that mathematics history supported lessons were not much effective on the behavior and the permanence as a decisive factor like the the lessons taught by the teacher guide booklet but regarding the success the mathematics history was quite fruitful. In addition, the experimental studies showed that the success of the groups does not change depending on sex. Key Words: Mathematics History, Mathematics Education
